Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Justice / Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Attorney General (“AAG”) in the Office's Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources (“AENR”) Bureau. In the AENR Bureau, the AAG will appear on behalf of, and in defense of, State agencies and boards in state and federal courts regarding agricultural, environmental, water, and other natural resources-related matters with potential for appellate practice. While environmental and natural resources law experience is preferred, the position allows for experience in a variety of practice areas including contracts, APA claims, rule and regulation review, tort claims, property law and providing legal counsel to agencies.  Excellent legal research and writing skills required.

Requirements/ Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an ABA accredited law school and a license to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion;
Excellent legal writing skills and demonstrated work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications: Legal experience in a private law firm or government agency, which may include service as a judicial clerk.  Two or more years of general civil litigation or environmental law experience.  Prior experience in motions practice, depositions, trial, and appearance before state or federal courts.  Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the relevant position.
Other: Some travel required. Applicant accepting a job offer must pass a background check. 


 

Salary commensurate with comparable state agency positions and candidate experience. Full-time state benefits available.
