About the Opportunity

Northeastern University’s Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering (MGEN) unit seeks highly motivated applicants, committed to teaching excellence, for the role of Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor (a non-Tenure-Track faculty position) in Miami with general areas of focus in Application Engineering & Development, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning platforms, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering, as well as Data Architecture & Engineering. In this role, the Teaching Faculty will report directly to the MGEN Executive Program Director. The selected candidate is expected to teach, advise, as well as identify new and industry trending subjects for curriculum advancement.

The MGEN unit seeks to produce more effective software engineers who are substantially more capable than ever of addressing the needs of digital society in terms of time, cost, and quality. The unit will accomplish this by revolutionizing the way software is designed and evolved over time, and believe software is a systems engineering challenge rather than a coding problem. See website for details of programs: http://www.coe.neu.edu/graduate-school/multidisciplinary

The appointment title/rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

This position will report directly to the MGEN Executive Director and collaborate across the unit. Successful candidates will be expected to teach six core or elective courses per year, and are willing to teach in the evenings, and during summer sessions if appropriate. Successful candidates will also incorporate hands-on instructional elements (i.e., programming code, etc.) for graduate-level engineering curriculum into their courses. The Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor will develop course content, prepare academic activities and course delivery materials to support course objectives, advise students, work collaboratively to identify instructors, and perform service to the unit, university, and profession.

Additional duties associated with this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Instruct and prepare students to improve relevance, rigor, and quality through teachings and course offerings
  • Counsel students on academic advising and other academic matters
  • Respond to unit and student inquiries
  • And other duties as required

PhD in Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering field is required by employment start date.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a terminal credential in a related engineering field, 10+ years of experience in either higher education and/or a relevant engineering field (a requirement of 15+ years of experience in either higher education and/or a relevant engineering field will be required for positions at the associate and professor level), and have expertise working with diverse student populations. Additionally, successful candidates will exhibit a commitment to teaching excellence, an ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Please include with your application documents a (1) cover letter; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) Statement of Teaching Interests & Philosophy; and (4) three letters of reference. Instructions for the statements are included below.

Statement of Teaching Interests & Philosophy: Please summarize your past instructional and mentorship expertise, your pedagogical philosophy, your plans/goals for teaching (including existing and proposed courses), and your strategies for teaching and mentoring a diverse cohort of undergraduate and graduate students. Include a section discussing educational scholarship that you would conduct as part of your efforts in instruction and/or working with students.
