NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
DOF’s The Administration and Planning Division is responsible for managing and overseeing administrative and operational services for the agency. This includes the daily management of the Offices of Financial Management, Purchasing and Contracts, Operational Services, and Diversity and Inclusion.
The Office of Operational Services coordinates and directs all facilities-related operational support services for both public and privately leased properties agency-wide, including space planning, telecommunications, security, fire safety, health and safety, and fleet and transportation operations. The division also includes the agency warehouse, print shop, and mailroom operations.
The Facilities Management Unit seeks an Assistant Architect to assist in the planning, coordinating, and administration of design and construction projects for leased and City-owned facilities. Responsibilities include supporting project planning, programming, design development, contract administration, construction coordination, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, agency requirements, budgets, schedules, and design standards.
Reporting to the Director of Planning & Design, the selected candidate’s duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Prepare architectural drawings and construction documents.
- Review architectural plans and specifications and design submissions.
- Conduct field inspections and site visits.
- Assist with coordinating design and construction projects.
- Support agency space planning and workplace improvement initiatives.
- Assist with renovation and improvement projects.
- Review project compliance with applicable building codes and agency standards
- Coordinate project schedules, documentation and stakeholder communications.
- Support construction administration throughout the project implementation.
Additional Information:
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed between the City and the Collective Bargaining Unit representing employees serving in the civil service title.

Qualifications

1. A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
2. A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or
3. A valid New York State Registration as an Architect.

The following are examples of four-year degrees that are NOT acceptable to meet the education requirement: Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology; Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture; Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts issued by the Architectural Department of a college; Bachelor of Science in Art and Design issued by the Architectural Department of a college.

Note:
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree constituting the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college
  • Bachelor of Science degree in architecture representing the first four years of a five-year professional architecture degree, plus one year of full-time satisfactory architectural work experience
  • Valid New York State registration as an Architect
  • Permanent Assistant Architect civil service title, reachable on Assistant Architect Open Competitive Civil Service Exam No. 5011, or permanent in a comparable civil service title eligible for a 6.1.9 title change
  • Valid New York State motor vehicle driver license, if required for the assignment
