Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Accountant to join our Sydney based team on a full time, 13-month contract commencing mid-November 2024. This person will play an important role in providing support in our corporate accounting and deliverables for the entities we manage, along with assisting our wider Finance team.
Reporting to the Director | Finance & Accounting, you’ll be joining a national team of enthusiastic and driven individuals who strive for continuous improvement. This position will suit a proactive, composed, and self-starting Assistant Accountant who wants to build on their previous experience within a collaborative and supportive organisation. You will be working towards a professional accounting qualification (CPA/ CA) and preferably have experience in the property industry.
What will you be responsible for?
- Prepare and take responsibility for the accuracy of month end and quarter end closing tasks
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations including preparation of monthly bank transaction journals
- Weekly bank receipting and following up outstanding AR balances
- Raise invoices as and when required
- Prepare monthly BAS – ensuring submission deadlines are adhered to. BAS process includes transaction testing, variance reporting, responding to reviewer queries in an accurate and timely manner.
- Perform Balance Sheet and General Ledger Reconciliations for corporate entities
- Prepare weekly Cash Flow actual reports
- Assist with other monthly and quarterly accounting requirements as business needs arise
- Assist with quarterly G&A reforecast for 3 cost centres including preparing cost centre reports, meeting cost centre managers and uploading forecast to HFM
- Process payable invoices in the system in a timely manner and complete invoice review and approvals
- Assist Senior Accountant with ad hoc tasks and responding to queries
- Ensure compliance with SOX and other controls in day-to-day operations
- Assist with internal and external audit queries
- Prepare supporting documentation for cash custody audit
- Prepare ABS surveys
- Process improvements
- Continuously develop and implement initiatives to improve the integrity and accounting of corporate entities
- System/ IT improvement and testing as required
What experience and qualifications will you possess?
- Degree in Finance or Accounting
- Working towards professional qualification (CA/CPA)
- Experience working in the property industry preferred
- Good analytical skills
- Advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel
