The annual pay range for this position is $141,700-226,300/year
How You Will Contribute:
Duties: Write and refine functional specifications for next generation modems advancing the state of the art. Define and document architecture of next generation modems based on functional specifications. Use calculus, real analysis, and convex optimization for proving and optimizing aspects of system performance. Optimize digital signal processing functions including probabilistic constellation shaping for nonlinear optical fiber channel propagation. Define and implement control loops and algorithms for next generation modems. Code functions in Matlab/C++/CatapultC according to generally accepted coding standards. Create and publish design guidelines, how-to documents, and setup guides in Confluence. Chair code review and document review meetings, publish and track minutes/features/bugs in Confluence/Jira. Monitor, analyze and improve design procedures. Supervise, mentor and train junior engineers, provide technical feedback. Interface and collaborate with hardware, firmware, electro-optic, systems, and lab teams.
International travel is required. Position reports to the Ciena Alpharetta, Georgia office, partial telecommuting permitted.
The Must Haves:
Requirements: Must have a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 36 months of experience in Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and three (3) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a Computer Systems Engineers/Architects-related occupation.
Position requires 3 years of experience in the following:
• ASIC design;
• Digital signal processing using Matlab, C++, or Catapult;
• Advanced digital communication theory;
• Control theory;
• Optical communication;
• Calculus, real analysis and convex optimization;
• Digital verification/debugging; and
• Experience with lab integration and using standard lab equipment.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
