ABOUT THE ROLE
Fever is seeking a talented and dynamic freelance Artistic Director & Quality Controller to join Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience (HPFF) team.
The ideal candidate must have a background in live experiences and events and be extremely visionary. As freelance Artistic Director & Quality Controller, you will assist with the delivery of the creative vision of the HPFF experience at various locations globally.
This will involve ensuring each show delivers an excellent audience experience, adherence to the guidelines set by the studio, and maintaining high quality levels across the productions.
This role will assist the Global Creative and Production team, and will support the Creative Director of the project.
COMPENSATION
To be negotiated based on experience. While this will start as a freelance position, we are looking for individuals who are interested in working on this project long term.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Development
- Assess venues for their suitability to host a HPFF production, including the ease of integration of the existing creative assets
- Assist the Production and Design Teams to adapt a scene-by-scene trail layout for each venue, utilising the catalogue of creative assets which best suit the location
- Identify ways of incorporating location specific traits into the narrative
- Ensure the trail’s layout is optimized for a logical and engaging visitor journey, allowing moments of discovery and interaction
- Advise the Creative Producer to assess impact, versatility, and financial feasibility of new creative ideas
- Create sketches / drawings / basic 3D modelisation to communicate creative ideas
- Write creative briefs for technical design elements such as lighting, video, and sound
- Support creative workshops and presentations to studios / IP holders to gain buy-in and approval for new creative ideas
Delivery
- Aid the Creative Producer to brief in new scenic elements and ensure that the best delivery methods are being used to create assets
- Collaborate with the Production Team to ensure creative elements are designed and executed within budget, without compromising on quality
- Responsible for briefing in graphic designers to deliver in-narrative assets for the production (e.g. signage, menu boards, etc)
- Produce creative decks as well as technical production instructions and installation guides for local teams onsite
- Coordinate closely with the Creative Producer and guide the local props teams in creative, fabrication, and finishing processes to deliver overall vision
- Engage with lighting, audio, and video designers during technical rehearsals to ensure effects fit the overall creative vision
- Consult for final creative approval of installation and customer experience
- Ensure that all installations maintain a high level of artistic quality, adhering to the original design and vision
- Conduct detailed inspections of all artistic elements prior to the event launch, ensuring that they meet design specifications and are visually impactful
- Ensure that the work produced by external artists or collaborators meets quality standards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Background in live event creative and production, specifically outdoor events is a must
- Expertise in visual storytelling and large-scale installations
- Knowledge of and interest in the Harry Potter universe and movies, as well as extensions of the narrative canon (e.g. Fantastic Beasts franchise)
- Strong understanding of lighting and sound design and how these disciplines can be utilised to convey atmosphere, emotion, or further the narrative. Knowledge of sound editing is a plus
- Ability to think outside the box and find cost-effective solutions to deliver creative ideas and on-site dressing
- Strong understanding of the set and scenic fabrication process
- Ability to create mood boards, sketches, and visual references
- Understanding of graphic design and printing process
- Understanding of the creative process from ideation, through development and delivery
- Passion for eco-friendly design and a commitment to minimizing environmental impact through creative solutions
- Experience leading creative teams, working with artists, lighting designers, multimedia specialists, and production crews
- Positive attitude, versatility, and adaptability
- Excellent communication skills and presentation skills to convey ideas to clients, stakeholders, and team members
- Fluent English, Spanish is a plus
- Willing to travel worldwide (traveling is integral to this role and will encompass ~20% of the time)
- Must have experience in using Google Drive and the Google Suite of applications including Sheets, Word, and Google Meetings.
- Visa/permits - The candidate must be able to work in the United States and either be (1) Already a citizen/resident in the country and permitted to work, or (2) Already in possession of a work visa/permit.
