We're looking for an exemplary CG Art Director to join our award-winning Immersive team at Journey's Squint/Opera studio in London!
About the Studio:Squint/Opera is Journey's immersive design studio, bridging the digital and physical worlds through groundbreaking storytelling and emerging technologies such as Unreal Engine and virtual twins.
We're the innovators behind the Empire State Building Observatory's digital reinvention, creating over 40 unique exhibits that transform 10,000 square feet into an interactive journey through history and architecture. At Battersea Power Station, we designed Lift 109, an immersive ascent experience that melds cutting-edge animations, interactive elements, and spatial soundscapes to breathe new life into London's iconic landmark. For Qiddiya City, we pushed the boundaries of virtual production, crafting a revolutionary campaign that ignited global excitement for Saudi Arabia's visionary sports and entertainment mega-development.
We're at the forefront of a new era in experiential multidimensional design (MDX) and an integral part of Journey’s Experience Stack. Inspired by the concept of a tech stack, our Experience Stack draws on decades of cumulative expertise from our physical, lighting, live & immersive, and emerging technology studios to produce magical, meaningful, original work. About the Role:
As Art Director for CG, you are experienced in your craft with great imagination and a deep understanding of the built environment. You are able to develop beautiful and unique visual approaches for CG projects that complement and translate the narrative and key messages of a project whilst enhancing the qualities of the design itself. Working alongside the Creative Director, you will interface with clients and production teams, which means building on narratives, underpinning them with a cohesive style suitable for the nuances of the project, whilst also resolving any gaps in design information.
Main Responsibilities:
- Responsible for art directing CG films and stills, including and live-action shoots where necessary or collaborating with a Shoot Art Director
- Collaborating with the Creative Director to develop projects through pre-production, especially defining the overall visual approach through moodboards, style frames and pre-visualisation
- Translating CD briefs into specific and practical art direction, before communicating to the production team to ensure efficiency of production resource
- Complete understanding of the project from the design aspect as well as creative vision
- Assessing models and information provided by the client, with ability to resolve gaps and translate architectural design details from references
- Ensuring that the art direction is in line with the client’s objectives, brand and/or style
- Attending client meetings and being involved in client correspondence during production
- Ability to understand the impact of design changes on visual outcomes and CG production and ability to provide effective solutions.
- Attending all project reviews, briefing project teams clearly and reviewing progress, ensuring art direction ambitions are being followed
Outcomes:
- Visual overview of all assigned projects ensuring quality standards are being set and obtained and that the S/O creativity is at the heart of every project
- Communicating the developing visual approach to the client and managing and interpreting feedback effectively
- Contributing to regular creative team meetings
- Communicating the Art Direction clearly to the production team
- Accurate estimation of time required for elements within projects
You are a passionate Art Director with previous experience working with CG production teams on CG and animation projects within a creative agency or production environment. Below are some required and desired qualifications and character traits for success in this role.
Qualifications:
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative suite
- Adaptable to different creative approaches and styles
- Experience with film and photography shoots
- Working knowledge of standard software and workflows to achieve creative goals and express vision to the production team

Salary Pay Range
£50,000—£65,000 GBP
