The Archives and Digital Preservation Specialist provides necessary support of the Archives to preserve and share Jim Moran’s legacy with integrity. It also provides critical operational and technical support for the Archives' digital preservation projects, support of specialized software, database systems, and platforms for the Archives, and support of other Foundation initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate and communicate with the Archives team to ensure the collection is properly catalogued and preserved
- Contribute to the design and implementation of workflows and integrations between a digital asset management system or preservation platform, and existing archives collection management system
- Contribute to the creation and documentation of protocols and workflows governing the use of a digital asset management system or digital preservation platform
- Survey, inventory, and process physical and digital archival collections
- Arrange and describe collections using archival descriptive standards
- Apply appropriate archival metadata standards within the collection management system and digital preservation solution
- Digitize materials utilizing best practices
- Proactively identify incomplete or inaccurate catalog records and participate in data cleanup
- Contribute to physical preservation activities including collection care and scrapbooks
- Provide research assistance, as needed, in support of archives inquiries and requests
- Lead educational tours, as needed
- Assist in the creation, preparation, and maintenance of exhibits and displays as needed
- Maintain working knowledge of Archives software systems, databases, and platforms to provide technical input and support. Support vendor relationships and interaction for updates, improvements, and troubleshooting, and participate in vendor meetings as necessary
- Provide support to The Jim Moran Foundation Board of Directors, and staff, and assist with special projects as assigned, which may include serving as vendor liaison, coordinating workflows, identifying risks and mitigation plans, establishing timelines, and monitoring project budgets.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of archival digital preservation theory, standards, and best practices including content management, access, data migration, preservation, and auditing procedures
- Skilled in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to archival digital preservation
- Demonstrated experience with the implementation and use of digital tools, methods, and approaches utilized in digital preservation
- Ability to analyze technology and/or operational objectives and establish or improve workflows
- Knowledge of metadata and data structure standards relevant to digital preservation and content description
- Experience with digital asset management systems, file systems, object stores, and storage technologies
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of archival collection management systems and digital preservation solutions; experience using Axiell Electronic Museum (EMu) database and Preservica preferred
- Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word)
- Basic competency in programming languages and knowledge of Application Programming Interface (APIs) a plus
