TEAM
Arene is a modern software platform that supports the creation, deployment and continuous improvement of software-defined vehicles. Arene consists of tooling, vehicle software, and a data platform to enable rapid development and reuse, while maintaining safety and security.
Arene's data platform provides a secure and scalable cloud location for the data generated during the development of software defined vehicles, which in turn enables data-driven decisions, supports the Toyota Production System, drives customer value, generates revenue, and reduces product time-to-market.
You will report to the Head of Arene Architecture, but will be working closely with the Arene MDC team, to help them drive and implement their software architecture, and enable autonomous driving.
This role's workplace type is hybrid - you will work in the office at least 3 days per week.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
You must be a technical expert with a background in data engineering, databases (both transactional and analytical), stream-processing, cloud infrastructure, with a good understanding of Machine Learning and Autonomous Driving.
As an architect, you will collaborate closely with tech leads, product managers, and engineers in the teams you support, while also aligning with Arene's Chief Engineer Office (other system engineers and architects) to ensure all teams in Arene follow the same processes and practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to and support the adoption of the System Engineering Management Process.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to collect & analyze software requirements.
- Create high-level product specifications and design documents.
- Define the architecture of your product in collaboration with the engineers you support.
- Create POCs to reduce the risk of architecture decisions.
- Take part in the implementation of the chosen architecture with the engineers you support.
- Define "fitness functions" for your software product and systematically validate it against these.
- Guide and assist the development team throughout the SDLC process.
- Drive consensus in the teams you support using your expertise, your tact, your objectivity, your strong communication skills and best engineering practices.
- Ensure that the team delivers high quality software.
- Ensure the final software product satisfies functional and non-functional requirements.
- Write, test, debug and optimize software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. (Master's preferred.)
- 10+ years of demonstrable experience designing and implementing data-intensive applications with evolutionary architectures.
- Proficiency in Python, Java/Kotlin, JS/TS, Terraform, AWS, Kubernetes, or equivalent.
- Excellent English communication and people engagement skills.
- Inclusive mindset, openness to various cultures, and desire to work in multicultural teams.
- Highly analytical mindset, with an ability to see both the big picture and the details.
- Deep understanding of how data systems work, efficient data structures and algorithms.
- Excellent knowledge of modern software development practices, modern data architectures, design patterns, software quality practices, testing, observability, infrastructure as code, and design of cloud-native applications.
- Empathetic leadership and experience navigating technical problems, business problems, and organizational problems, in order to drive consensus and empower your teams to deliver value.
- Mindset for ownership, growth, and quality.
- Experience in software project management.
NICE TO HAVES:
- Experience building systems supporting Autonomous Driving (AD/ADAS).
- Experience in ML, MLOps, Vector Databases, and related technologies and practices.
- Experience with data regulations (e.g. GDPR), data privacy and data governance.
- Japanese communication skills.
- Capable of mentoring, coaching and growing teams of engineers.
- Experience describing software architectures in UML and SysML.
