The Aquatics Specialist supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This full-time position supports the Aquatics team by overseeing all lifeguard operations, staffing, and job performances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with employee scheduling, including monthly in-services and agendas.
  • Execute lifeguard/instructor audits monthly.
  • Collaborate with Director of Aquatics strategies to motivate staff, create staff trainings, and achieve department goals
  • Complete 2 lifeguard/1 instructor shift on a weekly basis and conducts lifeguarding, swim instructing, and substitution for staff as needed 
  • Assists with maintaining inventory and ordering supplies for the department.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including weekly chemical tests and daily cleaning tasks are conducted.
  • Provides general department support including but not limited to responding to inquiries, data tracking, and reporting.
  •  Maintains visible presence at pool to support staff, ensure best practices, and foster member relationships.
  • Responsible for performing rotating weekend supervisor shift duty and assist with special events.
  • Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow reporting procedures for accidents, incidents and hazards.
  • Adhere to all policies, rules and regulations as outlined in employee handbook and other communications. Obtain and maintain required training.
  • Attend Staff meetings and in-services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard; Lifeguard Instructor cert required within 1 yr of hire
  • Minimum of 1 year of aquatics experience required
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong proof reading and editing skills
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft word, Publisher, Excel and Outlook.
  • Obtain V6 training and any additional certs the YMCA deems necessary.

SALARY:

Minimum starting rate of $17 an hour

Starting rate based on experience

SCHEDULE:

Full-time afternoon/evenings with weekends as needed

  • Physical ability and stamina to perform the duties as outlined above, including but not limited to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Extended periods of time working at PC and/or laptop, often with repetitive keyboarding movement.
  • Outside building travel required.

Skills Required

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
