POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Program Operations, the Aquatics Director provides leadership and oversight of the Woodson YMCA aquatics department, including programming, staff, facility operations, and risk management. This position ensures safe, high-quality aquatic experiences while supporting the YMCA mission and organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Lead and oversee swim lessons, American Red Cross training, and aquatic programs.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate aquatic staff.
• Teach swim lessons, Red Cross courses, or lifeguard as needed.
• Support the WYNS Swim Team and aquatic events.
• Promote and market aquatic programs to increase participation.
• Ensure aquatic facilities, equipment, and safety systems are clean, safe, and operational.
• Assist with oversight of multiple YMCA-managed aquatic facilities.
• Develop and manage the department budget and meet financial goals.
• Respond to member concerns and provide exceptional customer service.
• Coordinate facility scheduling and program operations.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
• Model the YMCA's mission and core values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 18 years old, prefer at least 21 years old
• Current Lifeguard Certification
• LGI certification preferred or obtained within 1 year of hiring
• Able to work with a variety of computer programs
• One to two years related experience preferred
EFFECT ON END RESULT:
The effectiveness of the fulfillment of this position will be measured by:
• Maintaining good relations within the YMCA Directors, part-time aquatic staff, school district staff, and with pool and community members.
• Maintaining staffed and safe pools so members and visitors can enjoy our aquatic facilities.
• Steady growth of program and participants.
