Summary
As an Apprentice, you will perform construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines and structures in accordance with Oncor’s construction standards manuals. All tasks are carried out under the direction of others and with the approval of the supervising authority. Work involves conductors and equipment energized at distribution voltages, utilizing approved protective equipment and tools.

This on-site position will have an assigned service territory within the Oncor Electric Delivery Company market and will be based out of our Midland Service Center.

Attributes and Responsibilities

  • Available to be on-call in the scheduled rotation; availability for overtime work and 24-hour call-out is required.
  • Willingness to travel outside your assigned district when needed is required.
  • Ability to work off wood poles, insulated platforms, and bucket trucks using approved safety practices and rules is required.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds above your head on a regular basis is required.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to live within 60 minutes of the service center, with 30 minutes or less preferred.
  • Expected to comply with the Code of Conduct at all times and to participate in local safety programs.

Skills

  • Basic computer skills, including software such as Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Outlook.
  • Effective communication skills needed to perform in a team environment.
  • Precision and strategic ability when climbing wooden poles.

Education and Experience

  • Class A CDL driver’s license is required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • 4 or more years of related distribution utility construction work experience is encouraged to apply.
  • Certificate or degree from an accredited lineman school is encouraged to apply.
  • Associate’s degree in electrical technology or a related field is encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to provide proof of successful lineman and safety training programs.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate the skills needed to advance in the Oncor Lineman Training Program within a reasonable time frame commensurate with proven work experience and abilities.
