Applications Architect

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Applications Architect to lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-scale application architectures. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining overall application structure, logical components, system interactions, integration patterns, and technical standards across complex environments.

This role requires expertise in enterprise architecture, cloud technologies, systems integration, and large-scale application development, with a strong focus on creating scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the overall structure, logical components, and relationships between applications, systems, databases, middleware, and infrastructure components.
  
• Develop, implement, and manage cross-platform applications within large, distributed enterprise environments.
  
• Monitor and evaluate system interactions across multiple layers of abstraction.
  
• Define source code limitations, standards, and technical requirements.
  
• Design and document application interfaces and integration patterns.
  
• Establish reusable application components and architectural frameworks.
  
• Develop enterprise architecture deliverables, including models and documentation.
  
• Lead multi-tier application infrastructure design, documentation, and configuration activities.
  
• Design, develop, implement, and maintain large, complex applications, workflow processes, and dynamic forms.
  
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to align architecture solutions with organizational objectives.
  

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  
• Master’s degree or relevant certifications (such as enterprise architecture or cloud architecture certifications) are strongly preferred.
  

Experience

• 10+ years of progressive experience in IT architecture and system integration.
  
• Experience developing and implementing enterprise application architectures.
  
• Extensive experience with at least two computing platforms, operating systems, environments, database technologies, programming languages, and communication protocols.
  
• Strong experience designing, implementing, and optimizing Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure in large-scale enterprise environments.
  
• Experience integrating complex enterprise systems while managing cross-functional dependencies.
  
• Extensive systems analysis and design experience in large-scale environments.
  
• Experience with middleware technologies and enterprise gateways.
  
• Experience using development tools, CASE tools, project management software, and business process improvement tools.
  
• Experience with data and process modeling methodologies, metadata structures, repositories, and data dictionaries.
  
• Experience developing enterprise architecture deliverables and documentation.
  
• Experience leading multi-tier application infrastructure initiatives for medium to large organizations.
  

Technical Skills

Cloud Architecture

• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Azure architecture.
  
• Azure security, networking, identity, data services, monitoring, and governance.
  

Enterprise Integration

• API development and management.
  
• Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technologies.
  
• Microservices architecture.
  
• Middleware platforms and integration frameworks.
  

Architecture & Design

• Enterprise architecture methodologies and modeling.
  
• Structured application design, development, and implementation practices.
  
• Object-oriented analysis and design techniques.
  
• Functional and technical requirements design.
  

Service Management & Governance

• Familiarity with ITIL processes, including:
  
• Incident Management
  
• Change Management
  
• Release Management
  

Security

• Cloud security best practices.
  
• Compliance and governance frameworks.
  
• Secure application architecture principles.
  

Soft Skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies.
  
• Knowledge of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices.
  
• Public sector experience.
  
• Experience developing enterprise architecture models and documentation.
  
• Experience with large-scale enterprise application modernization initiatives.
  

Work Arrangement

• 5 days onsite in Toronto, Ontario.
