Job Description

  • Lead and propel technical pursuits and engineering activities for PDS business opportunities, including proposal development and customer presentations.
  • Lead and serve as the primary technical interface for Japanese OEMs, responsible for understanding, defining, and documenting customer and system requirements into actionable engineering plans.
  • Negotiate technical requirements and specifications with OEM customers.
  • Execute the planning, scheduling, and coordination of the detailed phases of the engineering work from initiation of design through production as well as follow up and support
  • Lead the technical project management to ensure programs are flawlessly launched including maintaining customer action lists and managing commitments ensuring customer needs are met.
  • Manage the application engineering team to support various customer programs.
  • Lead and coordinate major Japan media events (EV Japan, JSAE etc) for PDS Engineering.
  • Coordinate technical reviews and submission of deliverables such as 3D data, customer approval drawings and component drawings in line with key program dates.
  • Responsible for all activities related to development and delivery of prototype products for customers, plant, and internal uses. This may include testing, analysis of test results, fault analysis, and problem solving.
  • Strategic partner in the global cross functional team by applying knowledge of product development cycle and APQP disciplines to meet all product deadlines.
  • Aggressively pursues and identifies new customer opportunities with existing products or new products for continued business growth.
  • Drive benchmarking activities for Japan for the PDS Product Line
  • Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Greater than 8 years’ related automotive technical experience in application engineering, preferably in electrification or inverter technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and interface with customers.
  • Strong understanding of integrated drive modules (IDM), electric motors, inverter systems, power electronics, and vehicle electrification.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical presentation, conceptual and analytical skills, with the capability to make decisions and influence others of the validity of those decisions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cultures and functions.
  • Fluent in English; Japanese language skills are a plus.
  • Development and launch experience of integrated electronic and mechanical devices
  • Experience in DFMEA tool.
  • Problem solving skills using systematic approaches (8D, Six-Sigma, Shainin, etc.)
  • Experience in simulation (FEA and CFD) analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience of product design or application engineering with customer interaction
  • To have a drive for results, enthusiasm and to be eager to learn

Preferred requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Management
  • Supervision or Technical Project Leadership
  • Fluid and/or thermal dynamics experience
  • Strong understanding of product design concepts and processes
  • General understanding of drafting principle standards, including GD&T
  • Strong failure analysis and failure prevention skills
  • Strong risk analysis and mitigation skills
