Role Summary:

Application Engineer is responsible for developing complex thermal system applications to meet customer needs. In your daily work, you will be selecting the most optimal chiller / heat-pump equipment (or set of equipment), designing hydraulic and control systems in a project base environment. The role includes very close cooperation with the Equipment and Service Sales Engineers and working with the design engineer consulting firms.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Complex selection and sizing of thermal system equipment (chillers and heat-pumps)
  • Designing and developing complex thermal systems including Trane equipment, hydraulic and control side
  • Working in a close co-operation with Equipment Sales and Service Sales Engineers before the sales transaction, and project manager / order fulfillment team after the sales transaction
  • Work very closely with design engineering firms, and manage their relationships plus actively seek and build new design engineer consultant relationships
  • Be the expert in using complex thermal system selection and design tools
  • Being able to write shorts scripts to automate and improve existing selection and design tools
  • Perform energy, investment and CO2 reduction calculations
  • Lead complex thermal system pre-sales projects
  • Build a deep application knowledge (e.g. about data center cooling systems, or district heating heat-recovery plants)
  • Partner with the rest of organization to resolve customer complaints
  • In close collaboration with other departments and employees to continuously grow the level of customer satisfaction, by ensuring overall superb customer experience. 
  • Constantly monitor market trends and benchmark against competitors in the assigned territory, feed this information back to the management 
  • If necessary, prepare and participate in marketing activities, such as exhibitions, customer events, etc. 
  • Act in compliance with the company policies, processes and procedures                                                                                                            
  • Adhere to high ethical standards of doing business and unconditionally following the company Ethics and Compliance rules 

Requirements: 

  • Technical University Degree - Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, Aeronautic Engineering or similar field
  • Proven experience in thermal systems engineering - preferably in HVAC area e.g., chillers, heat pumps etc.
  • Skilled in using selection and design software, plus capable of programming simple scripts
  • Project management skills and practical experience
  • Thermal systems application knowledge is highly preferable (e.g. district heating heat-recovery plants, industrial refrigeration / heating, data center cooling etc)
  • Self-motivated candidate with pro-active approach to improve the way things are done
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision i.e., complete tasks with minimum guidance and supervision. 
  • Good team player
  • Communicative Finnish and English. 
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, along with high integrity and capacity to deal with changing priorities. 
  • Highly autonomous and organized. The most of the work happens at Trane office but the work also includes frequent design engineer and customer site visits
