Application Developer (Shopify eCommerce Platform)
Vertiv is seeking an Application Developer to support the development and maintenance of Vertiv’s enterprise Shopify eCommerce platform within the Digital organization. This individual contributor role is responsible for executing development tasks across frontend and backend Shopify customization, assisting with integration troubleshooting, and contributing to feature delivery under the guidance of the Tech Lead. The Application Developer will contribute to keeping the Gen 2 eCommerce platform stable and continuously improving by performing hands-on development work, resolving defects, and supporting platform operations. This role supports Vertiv’s Operational Excellence and Customer Focus strategic priorities by helping ensure the eCommerce platform delivers a reliable digital commerce experience for Vertiv’s global customers.
As a member of the Digital organization’s eCommerce team, this role contributes to Shopify platform development including theme customization, Liquid templating, app configuration, and JavaScript/TypeScript development. The Application Developer will assist with integration testing, participate in code reviews, and support deployment activities under the direction of senior team members. This role will gain exposure to Rust-based Shopify Functions, Oracle middleware connectivity, and Linux infrastructure operations as part of professional growth within the team. This position is based at Vertiv’s India office.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Shopify Development & Customization: Develop and customize frontend and backend Shopify functionality, including theme modifications, Liquid templating, and app configuration; implement feature enhancements and bug fixes to meet business requirements under the direction of the Tech Lead.
- Frontend & Web Development: Build and maintain responsive, accessible web components using JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS; ensure cross-browser compatibility and adherence to Vertiv’s design standards and WCAG accessibility guidelines.
- Integration Support: Assist with troubleshooting Oracle integrations, middleware connections, and multi-platform system flows; support data mapping activities and help maintain Shopify–middleware–ERP commerce flows for order and product data exchange.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Perform unit testing, integration testing, and defect resolution across eCommerce platform components; participate in code reviews and ensure code quality standards are maintained; document issues and resolutions in ServiceNow.
- Deployment & CI/CD Support: Support deployment activities using GitLab, including code commits, merge requests, and pipeline execution; assist with environment management and follow established CI/CD processes and version control best practices.
- Collaboration & Learning: Collaborate with the Tech Lead, senior developers, and cross-functional teams including IT, vendors, and business stakeholders; actively develop skills in Rust-based Shopify Functions, Oracle integrations, and Linux infrastructure operations.
3. Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
Experience
- 1-3 years of hands-on software development experience with exposure to Shopify platform development or eCommerce application development.
- Experience customizing Shopify themes and working with Liquid templating language in a professional or project-based setting.
- Familiarity with supporting eCommerce platforms in a production or staging environment, including basic troubleshooting and defect resolution.
- Exposure to integration concepts, REST/GraphQL, and middleware platforms is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with the Shopify platform, including Liquid templating, Storefront API, and Admin API.
- Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and modern web development fundamentals.
- Basic understanding of REST and GraphQL; familiarity with Postman or equivalent API testing tools.
- Exposure to version control systems (GitLab) and CI/CD pipeline concepts.
- Basic familiarity with Linux environments and command-line operations.
- Understanding of web security fundamentals and secure coding practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Shopify Plus features and Shopify Functions.
- Exposure to Rust or willingness to learn Rust for WASM-based Shopify Functions.
- Familiarity with Oracle databases or Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC).
- Experience with ServiceNow for incident tracking.
- Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards.
- Experience with AI-augmented development practices and tools.
- Agile/Scrum experience in team-based delivery environments.
