Job Title:Application Development Scientist/Engineer – Coatings, Adhesives & Sealants (CAS) Additives

Summary:As an Application Development Scientist/Engineer at Momentive, you will be in an external, market-facing role leveraging your technical expertise to help create new innovative solutions and solve critical customer problems. You will have the opportunity to develop a deep market understanding, establish & develop customer relationships, and deliver value-added solutions. Your role will focus on the Americas region to support the CAS West business segment. And you will work in close partnership with your sales, technical/R&D, and product management colleagues.

Responsibilities Include:

New Product Development

  • Understanding of current market trends, extract customer needs and translate it to create New Product Concepts. Conduct voice of customer to help with new product development and commercialization.

  • Provide technical input into the design of new products concepts to create differentiated value-add for the customer/market. This should include clear technical targets with a strong value proposition and validation plans.

  • Support of new product introductions including formulation development, new applications and the development of technical literature.

Customers/Distributors Support

  • Provide customer support related to the use of new and existing products. Understanding of product benefits and proposed applications. Follow-up on market/customer projects and proactively communicate internally with key stakeholders.

  • Assist in regular trainings for customers, distributors & agents.

  • Assist in creating promotional content and other literature materials (flyers/new presentations/videos) to support distribution teams.

  • Develop & foster relationships with customers/distributors to help drive organic growth. Become the key point-of-contact for technical issues and questions related to the polymer & electronics additive market.

Marketing, Sales, and Technology Support

  • Work closely with marketing, sales, technology, and the supporting functions on new business opportunities to drive growth for the polymer & electronics additives business.

  • Leverage market knowledge to help shape the product portfolio

  • Active participation in calls and meetings, providing expert feedback on requests.

  • Create and share information internally: new presentations, marketing concepts, products promotional ideas as well as lab work findings, new benefits and performance of Momentive or competitive products.

  • Provide support to other ADE team members responding to customers’ issues.

  • Be aware of new raw materials coming to the market

Formulations Development/Laboratory Work

  • Assist in development of prototype formulations which address market/customer needs. Drive new product launches with prototype formulations which showcase the performance of the new solution.

  • Understanding of competitive technologies with the ability to propose alternatives to existing competitive solutions.

  • Support customer request projects, quality complaints and assessment of competitive materials

  • Maintain and promote a safe laboratory environment in accordance with applicable quality standards.  Sets example and is viewed as role model for other members of the team.

Marketing Communications

  • Be an active participant of exhibitions/seminar/webinars.

  • Coordinate and lead seminars/webinars in region or globally as needed 

  • Support with organization of marketing events and customer sample preparations

  • Provide guidance in developing & executing the digital marcom plan strategy for market/customer activation.

  • Completes other duties as assigned

Travel:

  • Up to 25%

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • B.S./M.S. Degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Chemistry/Material Science/Engineering

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in application development, technical sales and/or formulation role

  • Experience in the use/application of additives in the coatings, adhesives & sealants industry

  • Ability for regional and, if needed, international travel (Canada & Mexico) to customers/ distributors/events

  • Ability to independently perform or coordinate any required analytical testing, interpret results, and draw conclusions for review with scientists and engineers

  • Able to effectively communicate results clearly and precisely and document conclusions and recommendations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position demands physical stamina, requiring frequent sitting, standing, bending, stooping, crouching, twisting, turning, lifting, and movement within the facility. Walking on various surfaces and maintaining balance are essential.Strong sensory abilities, including hearing, sight, and clear speech, are necessary. Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds are required. Most positions necessitate passing a fit test and wearing a respirator.

  • The work environment is a laboratory setting. Adaptability to a traditional business environment is essential. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $90,500 - $132,550

The actual salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography. Additionally, this role is eligible for incentive or sales variable compensation payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.
