Job Summary:
Works with IT leadership to understand application development needs and oversees activities to deliver appropriate business and IT-aligned solutions. Manages a team of resources and is responsible for ensuring adequate resources are allocated based on project requirements. This is a supervisory position with primary accountability for leading and developing a technical application development team. Functions as a working leader as applicable for the domain, is hands-on with technical matters and has leadership responsibilities. Communicates plans, status, and issues to higher management levels.
Job Duties:
- Assumes primary responsibility for the application development team regarding job performance.
- Assists with the budget process regarding tools and strategy.
- Investigates, reviews and recommends new tools, monitoring and performance enhancement tools and creates a detailed roadmap for the application of those tools.
- Oversees highly complex application development tasks.
- Provides guidance for new design and architecture for projects that introduce new technology.
- Provides leadership to application development team on code development, access and security requirements.
- Leads application code review.
- Works closely with the project manager to develop and update the task plan for application development work and to keep the manager aware of any critical task issues and dependencies on other teams.
- Ensures that developers are applying application development standards in all deliverables.
- Ensures there is an effective application performance problem reporting process that is being followed.
- Also included is the development of the architecture supporting different environments for development, test and quality assurance.
- Performs management activities in addition to overseeing team work activities.
- Ensures the efficient and effective use of application development activities through the development and monitoring of a metrics program.
- Reports status and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Develops training and mentoring activities for the application development team to develop relevant skills and competencies.
- Also identifies the need for and develops necessary training for other IT and business areas to understand the overall process and their roles in application development efforts.
- Keeps current with technology and business trends.
- Leads by example both technically and by demonstrating best practices in the work place.
- Provides oversight into all activities of the application development team.
- Responsible for all human resource activities for the team, including hiring, compliance, performance management, contributing to raise and promotion recommendations, career development, corrective action and recommendations for termination.
- Manages and mentors the application development team.
- Leads in creating the enterprise-wide application development standards.
