We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals – and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.

Hartford Funds is seeking a business‑focused, problem‑solving technologist to join our Application Development team. This role is intentionally designed to be flexible, enabling you to contribute to our most strategic and high‑impact initiatives across the organization.

You will split your time between two critical areas:

  • Data Engineering (SQL‑based ingestion and transformation for our data warehouse)
  • Rapid development of highly tailored automation tools using Vibe coding and AI‑assisted delivery

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, can quickly understand business needs, and is motivated to deliver efficient, fit‑for‑purpose solutions—ranging from lightweight bespoke applications built in hours, to more traditional SQL‑driven data engineering assignments. Strong communication and teamwork are essential as you will collaborate closely with business analysts, the Data & Analytics team, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain SQL‑based data ingestion, transformation, and optimization processes for the enterprise data warehouse.
  • Build, enhance, and support a high volume of lightweight, business‑specific automation tools using Vibe coding and AI‑assisted development practices.
  • Conduct data profiling, source‑to‑target mapping, and ETL/Python development.
  • Perform performance tuning, troubleshooting, and debugging across SQL, Python, and lightweight applications.
  • Provide both business and technical analysis for data‑centric and automation‑focused initiatives.
  • Contribute to data modeling, warehouse design discussions, and documentation.
  • Deliver solutions in a fast‑paced, iterative environment, balancing speed with quality and reliability.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years developing solutions centered on data integration, SQL, and Python.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency and demonstrated experience with SQL‑based databases (Snowflake a plus).
  • Strong Python skills, including automation and data ingestion patterns.
  • Experience using AI‑powered development tools (e.g., Copilot) to accelerate creation of bespoke applications.
  • Familiarity with scripting (PowerShell, etc.) and integration methods (flat files, APIs/web services).
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts (ER diagrams, normalization) and data warehousing concepts (star schema, dimensional modeling).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to analyze business context to design optimal solutions.
  • Experience writing clear technical documentation.
  • Comfortable delivering high‑impact work in a fast‑moving environment.
