Role Summary/Purpose:
The API Software Development Engineer II, excelling in a modern software engineering environment and leading by examples through high quality, timely delivery of solutions to specification. Success in this role includes building scalable APIs and resilient applications, applying strong engineering fundamentals and sound design practices, operating independently with minimal guidance, coaching junior engineers and positively influencing team engineering standard, delivery outcomes and technical excellence.

Coach Junior Engineers and empower them to work efficiently
Participate in code review process and maintain the quality
Participate in Agile scrums with cross-functional teams
Participate in Agile sprints effectively which includes refinement, planning, daily standups, backlog grooming sessions and reviews
Participate in SAFe ceremonies
Participate and Contribute towards Engineering Community of Practices (CoPs)
Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports
Ability to analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes
Provide on-call support
Passionate about the latest technologies, open-source projects and languages
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related degree with modern application development experience, with minimum 3 years of experience in Technology and 2+ years in API development using Java and Spring Framework.
Strong technical expertise in Java, Spring Projects - Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring Batch, Spring Cloud, Spring Data JPA, Kafka, Git, Maven and RESTFUL API
ood to have knowledge on Apigee and Caching Systems – Redis/Gemfire
Familiarity in designing applications using SOLID principles, Java and microservice design patterns
Experience developing microservices with 12-factor app methodology
Working knowledge of RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL) and ability to write efficient SQL
Experience writing unit, integration and e2e tests using frameworks like Junit, Mockito, Spring Test
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, CloudWatch, or ELK) and interest in building resilient applications
Experience with continuous integration environments and using tools like Jenkins
Strong desire to develop high quality code with ability to review and leverage quality check tools like Sonar, PMD etc.
Familiarity with cloud platforms - AWS (basics like S3, ECS, RDS, CloudWatch) or Pivotal Cloud Foundry / Tanzu
Basic familiarity with Docker and containerized deployments
Experience with Agile/SAFe application development and familiarity with tools like JIRA
Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical peers
Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization
Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills

This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs)
