​Role Overview:

  • Customs Compliance Leader serves as one of the trade compliance responsible for portions of the APAC Region.
  • Managing trade compliance program for defined scope
  • Monitoring performance of Customs partners
  • Identifying continuous improvement initiatives
  • Evaluating and documenting the use of Free Trade Agreements and Duty Savings Provisions
  • Leading Customs change management projects.
  • Consultancy on Customs compliance questions and/or issues
  • Key contact for Customs agencies in the region of support

Position Responsibilities:

  • Monitor customs KPI’s with customs brokers related to spend, service, and productivity.
  • E2E ownership of Customs clearance activities within defined scope.
  • Create & manage Customs clearing processes and Roles & Responsibilities with internal (Q/Plants/EEM/GBS/AFF) and external (3PL/HUB/(R) DC) stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with external customs partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure customs regulations are in place for defined scope.
  • Actively search for new industry trends.
  • Organizes training for internal stakeholders on customs basics topics.
  • Influences the global booking and customs strategy based on data analysis and newest insights.
  • Attends forums / training to remain updated with latest Customs regulations.
  • Leads Customs readiness for possible acquisitions and product launches.
  • “Go to” person (consultant) for any questions related to customs as well as supporting resolution of any unexpected customs issues.

Required skills, experience, and education

Educational Requirements:

University degree or equivalent by experience.

Basic Requirements:

  • 8+Years of direct international trade experience
  • Demonstrated learning agility, flexibility, ability to focus and prioritize.
  • Experience in all modes of transportation (air, sea, & road), for ambient, cold chain and dangerous goods.
  • Experience in systemic connectivity (interfaces) with External customs partners.
  • Experience in managing complex Customs rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Customs compliance and design of optimal freight flows.
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Emotional intelligence under conflict.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and influence skills.
  • Proven ability to manage effectively in a crisis.
  • Demonstrated multi-functional project management skills (FI, Q, IT, SC, Manuf.).
  • Experience of working on an international level.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written & presentation skills).
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Deep Knowledge of incoterms, Free Trade Agreements, Preferential Origin rules, Embargo and Sanctioned Country restrictions, Tariff Classification
  • Experience with manufacturing and supply chain operations.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience and knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and GDP (Good Distribution Practice).

Preferred skills experience and education

Educational Requirements:

MBA or equivalent by experience.

  • 8 years of direct international trade experience
  • Knowledge on Import & Export regulations (FDA, Administer of Health, USDA or Agriculture, EPA, Swiss medic, EMA = European Medicine Agency, MOH and MOA (Ministry Of Health/Agriculture, Receita Federal, Vigilancia Sanitaria, DOH, etc ) …
  • Working knowledge of Trade Programs (e.g., Free Trade Agreements, Preferential Origin rules, Incoterms).
  • Experience with transportation of controlled drugs.
  • Import Manager Certificate & Certified Export Coordinator to remain updated with latest customs regulations.
  • Knowledge of SAP and interfaces with SAP or other systems.
  • Understanding of Dangerous goods regulations).
  • Mandarin, and any other languages are an asset.

Expected Travel Percentage

Travel requirements: 10 to 15%
