We are looking for an Antenatal Risk Stratification (ARS) Technical Consultant to provide clinical and research expertise in the review, expansion, validation, and digitization of its Antenatal Risk Stratification tool.

The consultant will lead the technical and clinical refinement of the tool, expanding its application beyond antenatal care to include the postnatal, newborn, and non-pregnant periods. The role will work closely with clinical, programme, data, product, and technology teams to ensure the tool is evidence-based, scientifically rigorous, ethically sound, and accurately translated into a digital product.

Responsibilities
  • Review and refine the existing ARS tool, including its questions, risk classification logic, clinical recommendations, and referral pathways.
  • Expand the tool beyond antenatal risk assessment to appropriately assess risks during the postnatal period, newborn period, and non-pregnant state.
  • Ensure that the expanded tool and its clinical logic are aligned with appropriate clinical guidelines and evidence.
  • Design the validation approach for the tool, including methodology, study design, sampling approach, testing procedures, data requirements, outcomes, and analysis framework.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of the ethical approval application, including development of the required research protocol and supporting documentation, and manage responses/revisions required through the approval process.
  • Provide technical leadership for testing and validation of the tool, working with the program, clinical, data, and implementation teams to ensure the process is scientifically and ethically sound.
  • Develop the research methodology and scientific documentation arising from the validation work and support preparation of research manuscripts/publications.
  • Support the digitization of the ARS tool, working with the product and technology teams to ensure that the approved clinical questions, algorithms, risk classifications, recommendations, and workflows are correctly translated into the digital product.
  • Review findings from testing and implementation and recommend evidence-based modifications to the tool where required.
  • Provide ongoing technical input to the program team on maternal, postnatal, newborn, and women's health risk stratification as required during the consultancy.

Requirements
  • Medical degree with significant clinical experience; Obstetrics & Gynaecology or a related maternal/newborn health specialty is strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant clinical and/or public health experience, with strong expertise in maternal and newborn health.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical research, study design, research methodology, and scientific writing.
  • Strong understanding of research ethics and IRB/ethical approval processes, including preparation of research protocols and ethics applications.
  • Experience designing or supporting the validation of clinical tools, decision-support tools, screening tools, or risk-stratification models.
  • Strong ability to interpret clinical evidence and translate it into practical clinical algorithms, recommendations, and referral pathways.
  • Experience working collaboratively with clinical, programme, data, product, and technology teams.
  • Strong scientific writing skills, including experience developing research reports, manuscripts, abstracts, or publications.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver clearly defined outputs within a short, deliverables-based engagement.

Skills Required
