Project Description:
This project will be supporting the Data Modernization Accelerator for CDC (DMAC) initiative at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
Job Summary:
As an Android Developer, you will build high‑quality, secure, performant Android applications that integrate seamlessly with backend services, cloud environments, and the team’s broader mobile ecosystem. You’ll partner closely with Mobile Development Software Engineers who lead native app architecture, platform configuration, offline‑sync strategies, security controls, testing frameworks, and mobile release pipelines.
You’ll contribute to modernizing existing mission apps and building new mobile capabilities that support field personnel, public‑health operations, and device‑centric workflows.

Responsibilities:
  • Build, maintain, and optimize native Android applications using Kotlin or Java, aligned to architecture patterns defined by Mobile Dev SEs.
  • Implement offline synchronization, secure authentication flows, encrypted local storage, and robust API integration patterns.
  • Develop responsive, user‑focused mobile interfaces with careful attention to performance, usability, and maintainability.
  • Partner with embedded software engineers to integrate mobile features with device‑level functionality, hardware interactions, or specialized platform configurations (as applicable by project).
  • Work with backend and cloud engineers to build secure mobile‑to‑API pipelines, handle data serialization, and support scalable service interactions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies; collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including security, DevOps, cloud, and product owners.
Required Experience:
  • 3+ years designing, building, testing, and deploying Android applications
  • Experience implementing mobile‑specific architecture decisions: dependency management, offline data sync, API patterns, mobile testing strategies, authentication & security
  • Experience integrating Android apps with backend APIs, cloud services, and third‑party platforms
  • Experience with Google Play Store release pipelines
  • Ability to partner within collaborative, cross‑functional teams delivering production‑ready software
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Azure or AWS
  • Experience with cross‑platform tools (React Native, Flutter
  • Experience with AI‑infused development workflows such as spec‑driven or
  • GenAI‑assisted programming
  • Experience supporting enterprise or government environments
Education & Training:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
Work Authorization, Clearance Requirement, & Additional Information:
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Public Trust clearance. Due to contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (green card holders) to be eligible.
  • No agencies, third parties, or Corp-to-Corp submissions.
Salary Range:
  • $75,000 - $100,000
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
