We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Android Developer to join our team with a focus on video platforms. This role handles developing and maintaining mobile software projects for Chamberlain's myQ products of video technology. To accomplish this, the Android Developer will work with other engineers and other cross-functional team members such as Product Owners, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Customer Service. The Android Developer will learn, understand, and translate product requirements into technical requirements, verify development matches product owner expectations, as well as maintain a high-quality code base.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Android applications with a strong emphasis on video streaming, playback, and recording functionality.
  • Optimize video performance, quality, and latency to provide a superior user experience.
  • Collaborate with design and product teams to implement user-friendly and visually appealing video features.
  • Work on integrating third-party video APIs, codecs, and libraries to support various video formats and streaming protocols.
  • Implement features such as video sharing, live streaming, and interactive video elements.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in video platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve video-related issues, optimize performance for different Android devices and screen sizes.
  • Perform thorough testing and debugging of video-related functionalities.
  • Participate in peer reviews and pull requests to yield high quality software
  • Present software concepts, designs, or code in a design review forum
  • Collaborate and work creatively with the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) teams to provide requirements traceability from definition to implementation
  • Work with offshore teams to design and develop features and burn down technical debt
  • Adhere to coding standards and other best practices to create reusable code
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
  • Protect Chamberlain Group's reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • An advanced degree in directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.
  • Android engineer must have native experience with Kotlin (3+ years)
  • Experience writing unit tests
  • Experience working in larger team environment.
  • Excellent understanding of design principles and implementation of MVVM for Android or MVC for iOS
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to recognize issues in existing software and put together improvement plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (writing & speaking) skills, ability to tailor message for the audience when necessary
  • Ability to interface with Product Owners and Scrum Masters for ticket/issue management is required
  • Ability to create complex views that interact with network and data layers.
  • Knowledge of basic design best practices: Single Responsibility; Dependency Injection


Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Mobile development bootcamp, organized training, or certification.
  • Experience in creating technical documentation (UML, Sequence, etc).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum
  • Ability to interface with Product Owners and Scrum Masters for ticket/issue management is desired
  • Ability to lead junior engineers on projects of limited complexity is desired
  • Understanding of CI/CD, frameworks, and deployment processes is desired
  • Ability to estimate work, support project plan creation, and report out progress to functional management at a project level is desired
