Louisiana First News, a trusted source for local news in Baton Rouge and surrounding communities, is seeking a dynamic and experienced News Anchor to join our team. We’re looking for someone passionate about storytelling and dedicated to delivering accurate, engaging, and compelling news to our viewers.
As a key on-air presence, you will serve as a newsroom leader, connecting with the community while representing the values and credibility of Louisiana First News. Responsibilities:
- Anchor live newscasts with confidence, clarity, and professionalism.
- Deliver breaking news with urgency and accuracy, providing viewers with context and clear information.
- Collaborate with producers, reporters, and the newsroom team to develop compelling content.
- Write and edit scripts for accuracy, clarity, and impact.
- Engage with viewers on digital platforms, including social media and the station’s website.
- Represent the station at community events and maintain strong local connections.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the newsroom staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of on-air anchoring and reporting experience.
- Strong editorial judgment and storytelling skills.
- Excellent on-camera presence with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle breaking news calmly and professionally.
- Experience with digital and social media platforms.
- Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.
- Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
