Job Purpose

The Haleon R&D team supports the development of leading global brands in Consumer Health care. Analytical sciences is a specialised discipline providing support for new product development, via methods, claims and technology development programmes that contribute to the growth of the Haleon Business. 

This role’s primary job function is to execute technical strategies in analytical chemistry focused on the delivery of innovation in the Consumer Healthcare network. In addition, this role may lead moderately complex problem solving and troubleshoot/solve analytical methodology issues in the Consumer Healthcare network. This role is familiar with HPLC and GC and well-established detection technology. This role displays continuing growth of knowledge of analytical chemistry. The role requires close collaboration with product development, quality, regulatory and supply chain functions. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical expert who executes all aspects of analytical development.
  • Has advanced knowledge of varied aspects or a specialised aspect of a discipline and working knowledge of principles and concepts in other relevant disciplines. Applies technical and functional knowledge to design experiments, assist in project design, and creates innovative methodologies.
  • Provides scientific leadership within the analytical team and interfaces with internal and external partners such as Formulations, Quality and Regulatory.
  • Serves as the Analytical representative on project teams.
  • Participates in due diligence, new business opportunities and product assessments as required.
  • Performs and/or directs method development, validation / transfer activities for the testing/characterization of OTC Drug, Wellness and/or Medical Device products without supervision.
  • Troubleshoots complex instrumentation issues and solves complex analytical problems.
  • Has a strong understanding of GMP requirements and R&D policies/procedures.
  • Ensures all applicable training is completed prior to conducting any GMP scientific work.
  • Follows R&D documentation policies and practices when recording and documenting scientific work as well as performs peer reviews of scientific data and reports.
  • Recognizes atypical data and leads the investigation to determine root cause.
  • Produces effective presentations and possesses writing skills able to appropriately tailor message for audience which could include internal or external partners, management, scientific communities or Health Authorities.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree of equivalent in Chemistry or other scientific area of expertise

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Degree or equivalent in Separation Science or other scientific area of expertise

Required Experience

  • Substantial previous experience in Quality or Supply Chain or R&D including Project Management in a consumer healthcare environment or related area (e.g., CPG, pharmaceutical, etc.).

Preferred Experience

  • Extensive experience in the area of analytical sciences relevant to the Rx, OTC or consumer products industry
  • Proven ability to assist in developing scientifically sound and robust methods of analysis to be used for release and stability testing and complex problem solving
  • Good communication skills in a matrix environment.
