General Summary:

Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our Analytical Development Department in Boston, As a member of Analytical Development, this role will support multiple drug development programs, both drug substance and drug product development. Responsibilities will include analytical testing, drafting development studies, and analytical data review, as well as routine instrument and method troubleshooting. This position will also routinely collaborate will other CMC functions and present in technical teams.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs, conducts and interprets analytical experiments within SOPs and regulations using HPLC, GC, KF and other instruments.
  • Maintains accurate records of experiments and results in an electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Collates and interprets data systematically, and compiles results into conclusions or recommendations to guide project decisions.
  • Responsible for assigned project, may serve as the project team representative, and reviews results with management as appropriate.
  • Independently performs intermediate experimental troubleshooting.
  • Independently prepares presentations and presents experimental conclusions at internal team or CMC project team meetings.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in pharmaceutical development.
  • Experience and knowledge in HPLC, GC, KF, and other analytical techniques.
  • Experience and knowledge in SEC, IEX, IP-RPLC, and IC testing is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities, and support timelines for multiple projects.
  • Ability to teach others how to execute laboratory experimentation.
  • Ability to learn new techniques and implement efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in both a team/matrix environment is essential.
  • Experience working with peptide, oligonucleotide and novel modalities is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field and 2+ years’ of relevant employment experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field and 5+ years’ of relevant employment experience

Flex Designation:

On-Site Designated

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
