What is the Opportunity?
RBC Capital Markets Energy Investment Banking platform is seeking an entry-level GIS Analyst. The successful candidate will play a critical role in analyzing spatial data and providing insights that inform investment strategies and decisions. This position requires proficiency with GIS software enabling the candidate to conduct analyses and create maps always ensuring high data-fidelity. Candidate must be willing to work in a fast, dynamic environment and be flexible working with cross-functional teams including engineers, geologists, and finance professionals of various seniority and expertise.
What will you do?
- Utilize ArcGIS to create a variety of presentation-quality maps to be used in marketing materials such as pitch books, executive summaries, and data room presentations
- Conduct spatial analyses utilizing various oil and gas specific datasets, both public and private
- Support individuals of various experience levels and disciplines, including business development, engineering, and geology
- Work closely with the GIS team to meet deadlines for day-to-day requests and collaborate on improving workflows to enhance team’s efficiency
- Primary function includes creating maps using preliminary data, leveraging industry software (Enverus Prism/IHS), digitizing, and utilizing various geoprocessing tools, including Spatial Analyst extension
- Utilize automation and technical expertise to continuously improve workflows, dataflows, and solution delivery
- Perform due diligence on shapefiles in conjunction with information supplied in Visual Data Rooms
- ~45-65 hours/week and some weekends required, i.e., on-call on a rotating basis

What do you need to succeed?
BS or BA in Geographic Information Science, Geography, or equivalent required Must be proficient in ArcGIS or similar software or demonstrate ability to learn quickly Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 suite Experience with graphics software, such as CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, or similar preferred Basic knowledge of Python scripting or proficiency with ArcGIS ModelBuilder a plus Background knowledge of upstream oil and gas industry a plus Personality-fit:
- Self-driven with a positive attitude and open to new ideas and methodologies
- Able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Able to prioritize projects and requests with competing timelines
- Able to pick up on new concepts and industry knowledge
- High level of attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to write clear emails and communicate with personnel is essential
