Position Summary

CVS Health’s Adjudication & Client Experience Engineering organization is seeking a highly skilled Software Development Engineer to join our Application Production Support Team, providing Level 1–3 support for critical IT Government Systems business applications. This role is essential in ensuring the reliability, stability, and continuous improvement of systems that directly serve our PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management) business customers.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will work closely with fellow engineers as well as product, design, and operational teams to triage, troubleshoot, and resolve daily production issues. You will be responsible for addressing application incidents, identifying root causes, implementing permanent fixes, and driving process improvements to reduce recurring issues. Your work will support business continuity, customer satisfaction, and the overall operational excellence of our digital platforms.

In addition to support responsibilities, you will play an active role in facilitating Break fix existing codebases to improve application stability, scalability, and performance as our membership and transaction volumes continue to grow. This includes designing and implementing new features, contributing to technical architecture, and helping advance the engineering roadmap across our adjudication and client experience systems.

This position requires strong technical expertise, solid problem‑solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a high‑demand production environment. You will help guide technical direction, contribute to engineering innovation, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality digital solutions for our customers

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in application production support (Level 1–3), incident management, and troubleshooting of enterprise systems.
  • 1+ years of Software Development Engineering experience using Java, Oracle, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS 
  • 1+ Experience with distributed systems, APIs, databases, and cloud technologies (Azure and GCP).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, logging frameworks, and IT operations processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmacy benefits management, or similar regulated industries.
  • Experience with automation, monitoring, and incident management tools.
  • Knowledge using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Github Copilot, Windsurf, etc) to accelerate development workflows 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Highschool diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$67,980.00 - $135,960.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
