Position Description
HPS is seeking an Analyst/Associate to join the Sustainability, Power & Energy team in its New York office. The Sustainability, Power & Energy team is a dedicated group of individuals with specific sector expertise who lead the origination, structuring and management of credit investments within this business segment across the firm. This is a role that requires the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, across various products and subsectors within the power, renewables, sustainability, and transition energy landscape. Successful candidates will be self-starters with the desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Identify and research investment opportunities primarily in the private/illiquid credit markets, while also monitoring portfolio investments
- Develop financial models (both corporate, as well as project/asset level models)
- Perform comparative company and asset analyses to determine valuation and projected investment returns
- Work with senior members of the team, assist in efficiently screening new opportunities on the basis of their merits as well as their fit for HPS’s strategies
- Conduct detailed business diligence (industry, asset-level, competitive landscape, etc.)
- Manage third-party vendors such as attorneys, consultants and accounting/due diligence firms
- Perform detailed market and sector analyses and recommend investment opportunities and strategies
- Review primary credit documents and participate in new documentation negotiations
Candidate Profile
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field, or professional work experience in investment banking or credit
- 1-2 years of experience in project finance, investment banking, direct lending, restructuring advisory, private equity, fixed income/equity research or hedge funds
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of the power, renewables, and energy sectors
- An ability to research industries, markets and companies and then summarize and qualify an independent viewpoint
- An understanding of capital structures and balance sheets and the ability to analyze a company, as well as sensitize its forecasted operations and cash flows
- Solid knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial modeling
- Excellent Excel skills
- Strong oral and written presentation and communication skills, and an ability to communicate in summary fashion
- Strong writing skills and the ability to prepare investment summaries and memos
- A high level of entrepreneurialism, energy, sense of urgency, creativity and decisiveness coupled with the ability to work well within a team, and on several projects simultaneously
- Proven ability to work on, and manage to, deadlines
- The candidate should be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Rate of Pay
- The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000 but may vary based on various factors including job function, experience and geographic location. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.
