The Role

MLB is looking for an Analyst, Live Media to join its Analytics team based in New York, NY. This role is primarily responsible for assisting and informing key stakeholders across baseball of new and historical trends in the media landscape, leveraging data and analytics to help drive business impact.  

Qualified candidates will be familiar with baseball and macro trends within the sports, media, and entertainment industries. They will be eager to dive into new work, leveraging their technical capabilities to provide quick, efficient analyses in a dynamic and rapidly changing media landscape. They will have strong knowledge of data-relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and solid understanding of traditional media measurement (Nielsen). Most importantly, the ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical support and manage daily reporting of consumption and purchase trends for MLB Local Media operated RSNs, including both linear and streaming
  • Track and report upon television and streaming viewership of MLB games across national and local platforms while providing contextual analysis within the sports media and competitive media landscape
  • Produce daily, weekly, and ad-hoc reports for senior stakeholders including ratings recaps and other advanced analyses in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Provide additional research support and create presentations, data visualizations, and dashboards that clearly communicate insights into the consumption habits of MLB’s fanbase
  • Utilize available internal and syndicated data sources to illustrate how the MLB fan base aligns with current and potential future corporate partners
  • Effectively build relationships and establish trust with team members in the League Office and at Clubs to further collaborate on key projects and initiatives

Qualifications & Skills

  • B.A./B.S. degree with a relevant academic major (mathematics, statistics, computer science) is strongly preferred, though candidates with similarly strong relevant experience will be considered
  • Some to 3 years of professional experience in an analytics-related field. Internships and specific, relevant coursework will also be considered
  • Proficiency in quantitative data collection and data analysis using data-relevant programming languages (SQL, Python, R) is required
  • Understanding of traditional media measurement (Nielsen) is required
  • Understanding of syndicated consumer behavior platforms (Simmons, Scarborough, YouGov) is preferred
  • Ability to coordinate and organize multiple projects and analyses simultaneously
  • Highly professional manner with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Looker, Tableau, or other data visualization tools is preferred
  • Familiarity with baseball and macro trends within the sports, media, and entertainment industries

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus 

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
