About the Role

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support our SFR (Single Family Rental) legal team. This is a critical operations-focused role that ensures the timely and accurate processing of inbound mail, legal correspondence, and invoices. The ideal candidate is proactive, reliable, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This position is based in our New York City office and reports to Jim Hnilo, who leads the SFR Legal function.

Responsibilities

  • Open, scan, and digitally route legal correspondence and mail for the SFR Legal team
  • Maintain clear tracking logs of inbound mail, deadlines, and actions taken
  • Process legal invoices: validate accuracy, match against work performed, and prepare for approvals
  • Coordinate with vendors, outside counsel, and internal teams to resolve discrepancies or missing information
  • Maintain organized digital records and folders for all legal invoices and communications
  • Provide general administrative support to the legal team as needed (e.g., calendaring, document management)
  • Organize and help manage legal and administrative matters associated with the SFR business.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of administrative or legal assistant experience (in-house or law firm)
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage repetitive tasks with consistency
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with invoice processing or accounts payable systems a plus (e.g., Zip or similar)
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity
  • Must be able to work on-site at our NYC office during standard business hours.

The pay ranges for New York-based hires are commensurate with candidate experience. 

Pay ranges for candidates working in locations other than New York may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.

Compensation Range for New York Based Hires
$70,000$85,000 USD
