Job DescriptionAbout the role
We’re looking for an experienced AML expert to strengthen how Wise identifies and manages money laundering and terrorist financing risk across its APAC markets.
You’ll bring together regional regulatory expectations, local typology knowledge, and internal risk evidence to identify enhancements to AML control coverage and effectiveness.
You’ll work closely with local Product Compliance & Risk (PC&R), Compliance, and Risk stakeholders from across our different APAC markets - as well as APAC and global Product and Engineering teams.
This is an individual contributor role in our first-line PC&R team. Based in Singapore and reporting to the Group Product Compliance Lead for APAC FinCrime, you’ll be the accountable PC&R owner for APAC AML risk and control effectiveness.
What you’ll do
Shape APAC’s AML risk and control priorities
Lead APAC PC&R’s assessment of ML/TF typologies, control coverage, and control effectiveness across our APAC markets
Work closely with local APAC market PC&R Managers to create a coherent regional view of AML risks, gaps, and priorities
Identify and prioritise opportunities to introduce new controls or enhance existing controls - supported by clear problem statements, evidence, expected outcomes and relevant market context
Turn regional insight into control improvements
Translate AML risks and regulatory expectations into clear outcomes and requirements for the relevant Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams
Represent APAC in the design and localisation of controls developed by global AML Product, Analytics and Engineering - ensuring material regional nuances are considered from the outset
Identify new APAC control opportunities and develop evidence-backed proposals that regional or global Product teams can evaluate and prioritise
Strengthen control effectiveness across the lifecycle
Provide AML expertise throughout the control lifecycle: from typology and red flag identification through design, testing, deployment, and ongoing monitoring / assurance
Work with AML Operational teams to understand how ML/TF risks manifest in practice and develop a deep understanding of operational handling to identify improvement areas
Support cross-functional decisions by making the relevant evidence, trade-offs, dependencies, limitations, and residual risks clearly understood and visible
Build a robust, joined-up regional capability
Connect AML work with adjacent areas (e.g. KYC, Customer Risk Assessment and Fraud) where layered controls or shared risk indicators can produce better outcomes
Communicate APAC risks, evidence gaps, recommendations, and progress clearly to regional and global stakeholders
Support regulatory engagements on AML topics across APAC, including coordinating responses to regulator requests and participating in regulatory inspections/exams
Build strong working relationships across regional and global PC&R, Product, Analytics, Engineering, Operations, and Compliance teams
Skills and experience
Must have
Minimum 7+ years in payments, fintech, banking, or other relevant financial services roles
Experience in AML model or scenario development, tuning, validation, and governance
Experience of engagements with APAC regulators and external auditors
High levels of ownership and autonomy, the ability to proactively identify improvement opportunities or areas of elevated risk, and the ability to drive work from inception to completion at pace with limited oversight
Nice-to-have
Experience in other financial crime domains in addition to AML - e.g. KYC, Customer Risk Assessment, Fraud
Experience using SQL or other analytical tools
Willingness to travel, as Wise offices and our global AML Product teams are located across different countries
About you
You have deep practical experience in AML/CFT matters across APAC - and have worked with both globally-led and locally-adapted AML/CFT control environments
You can evidence how you have translated regulatory guidance, typology analysis, and internal data into specific red flags, requirements, and measurable outcomes
You have strong technical fluency and can work credibly with Product Managers, Analysts, Data Scientists and Engineers
You can influence teams whose priorities and reporting lines you do not control - including global specialist teams and local market stakeholders
You are comfortable operating with ambiguity, challenging constructively, and making evidence-backed recommendations
You can clearly communicate complex financial crime risks to technical, compliance, and non-technical audiences
You take a practical, risk-based, and customer-oriented approach - rather than defaulting to advisory-only or overly-conservative solutions
You are motivated by building capability and improving operating models - not simply maintaining an existing programme
For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.
We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.
