AltaGas - EHS Advisor, RIPET
Reporting to the Director, EHS Midstream this position is responsible for providing EHS solutions and alignment to Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) Operations located in Prince Rupert, BC. As part of the RIPET Field Leadership Team, the EHS Advisor will provide EHS technical support to work planning and execution activities, manage EHS-related activities, and provide overall coaching and support for the team.
You will:
- Work closely with the RIPET site leadership, workforce, and contractors to deliver superior Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance.
- Provide technical EHS support across RIPET operations.
- Develop and improve the Midstream Operating Management System with a focus on EHS-related programs and elements (Health & Safety Management, Environment, Emergency Response, Security, Incident Management, Contractor Management).
- Maintain awareness of EHS risks to the business; update existing processes, procedures, practices, and guides at appropriate frequency and provide necessary training.
- Stay apprised of regulatory changes within the EHS portfolio and assist operations with meeting changing needs; engage with the AltaGas Regulatory team as necessary.
- Engage with local stakeholders (Trigon, Prince Rupert Port Authority) to ensure communication of and alignment on safety and security plans.
- Manage and maintain the RIPET Operations Environment Management Plan (OEMP).
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assist with the implementation of Green House Gas (GHG) reduction projects.
- Support surface water management sampling events, monitoring, and reporting.
- Support the collection of data for annual Green Marine program completion and audits as required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Support and participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Provide day-to-day EHS coaching and support to leaders and workers.
- Manage and monitor the effectiveness of the RIPET Emergency Response Program, ensuring the program is robust and meets regulatory requirements. Assist with planning and delivery of emergency exercises and fulfill roles within the Incident Management Team.
- Manage and monitor the effectiveness of the RIPET Incident Management processes, providing support related to incident reporting and investigation as required.
- Conduct regular EHS meetings, facility inspections, and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of EHS programs and initiatives.
- Support the development and maintenance of rail and marine security plans. Assume the responsibility of the Marine Facility Security Officer.
- Conduct training on various programs, elements, initiatives, and orientations.
- Be an active member of the Midstream EHS Team and network.
- Adhere strictly to AltaGas Safety Policy and Code of Business Ethics Policy.
You have:
- Proficient in hazard assessment, risk mitigation, and TapRooT Root Cause Analysis (or equivalent).
- Knowledgeable in Incident Command System, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices, including federal and British Columbia health and safety regulations.
- Strong independent work ethic, prioritization skills, and professional interaction with team members.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, proficient in MS Office, and quick to learn business-specific software.
- Results-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines effectively.
- Strong leadership and influence skills, with curiosity, flexibility, and self-motivation.
- Ability to coach workforce and leadership positively and effectively.
- Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or relevant post-secondary degree.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience, with oil and gas or heavy industrial/marine facility experience as an asset.
- Clean driver’s abstract and valid driver’s license.
Salary:
We offer a competitive salary range of $83,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
