  • Build and sustain trusted, direct relationships with government officials, policymakers, regulators, agencies, industry associations and other key stakeholders across Canada and the U.S.
  • Anticipate geopolitical, political, regulatory, and energy-market developments and translate them into strategic direction, business opportunities, and potential risks

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on government, policy and regulatory matters, bringing a commercial and enterprise perspective to complex issues and strategic decisions
  • Represent AltaGas in government, regulatory, industry and stakeholder forums, consultations, and negotiations
  • Influence and align leaders across Commercial, Business Development, Operations, Legal, Communications, Corporate Development, and Indigenous Relations to advance shared enterprise priorities
  • Translate complex policy, regulatory and business issues into clear, compelling insights for executive and Board audiences

What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Government Relations, public policy, or advocacy, preferably within Midstream, energy exports, utilities, or a related energy environment
  • Demonstrated experience navigating multiple jurisdictions, with an understanding of federal, provincial, and state political and regulatory environments
  • A strong track record of building trusted, influential relationships with senior government officials, policymakers, regulators, agencies, and industry stakeholders
  • Experience developing and executing advocacy strategies that support complex business, infrastructure, regulatory or market-access priorities
  • Strong commercial acumen and curiosity, with the ability to quickly understand what drives the business, where value is created and how government and policy can influence business outcomes
  • The ability to connect geopolitical, policy, and regulatory developments with export development, business strategy, opportunity, and risk
  • An ownership mindset and the credibility and confidence to lead important relationships and priorities directly.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to make thoughtful trade-offs while navigating complexity, ambiguity, and competing interests
  • The ability to influence and build alignment across functions, leadership levels, and geographies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex issues for senior executive and Board audiences
  • A bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, business, or a related discipline is preferred
  • Ability to travel as required

Why Join

  • Join a growing Government Relations team with the opportunity to help shape a world class capability and how AltaGas engages with governments and key stakeholders
  • Work at the intersection of Government Relations, export development, and business strategy, helping advance market access, major projects, and the long term growth of our Midstream business
