Technician Levels & Qualifications
Entry-Level / Apprentice Technicians 0–2 years of automotive experience or recent technical school graduate
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance services including oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections
- Assist experienced technicians with repairs and diagnostics
- Complete multi-point vehicle inspections
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow Ford service procedures and safety standards
Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair
- Strong desire to learn and develop technical skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Valid driver's license required
Light Duty / Mid-Level Technicians 2–5 years of dealership or independent repair experience
Responsibilities:
- Perform brake, steering, suspension, and maintenance repairs
- Diagnose and repair basic electrical and drivability concerns
- Complete engine performance maintenance and minor repairs
- Utilize scan tools and Ford service information systems
- Maintain productivity and quality standards
Qualifications:
- Hands-on automotive repair experience
- Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and repair procedures
- ASE certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction
- Desire to advance into more complex diagnostic and repair work
Journeyman / Experienced Technicians 5+ years of automotive technician experience
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair complex vehicle concerns
- Perform engine and transmission repairs and replacements
- Troubleshoot electrical, drivability, and advanced vehicle systems
- Complete customer-pay and warranty repairs efficiently
- Assist with mentoring and developing apprentice technicians
Qualifications:
- Advanced diagnostic and repair capabilities
- Experience with gas, diesel, HVAC, and advanced vehicle systems preferred
- ASE Master Certification preferred or equivalent experience
- Proven ability to produce quality repairs efficiently
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on Ford vehicles
- Diagnose electrical, drivability, and technology-related concerns
- Complete warranty repairs according to Ford standards
- Serve as a technical resource for the service team
- Support technician development and shop leadership initiatives
