Job Description:

At Airbus UpNext, we fly future technologies at speeds well beyond what seems feasible today. We're looking for passionate individuals to join a new demonstrator project that is shaping the future of sustainable aviation by advancing the aircraft electrification ⚡ ️ roadmap.

This project will focus on the challenges and opportunities of High Voltage Electrical Systems, which are essential for next-generation, low-emission aircraft part of Airbus ambition to electrify the skies.

As part of a fast-paced, agile team, you will help create a unique, state-of-the-art test facility from the ground up. Your mission will be to explore novel HV technologies at their limits and beyond, generating invaluable data and learnings needed to build the robust and reliable aircraft of tomorrow by safely testing the unsafe.

If you have a burning desire to make an impact and want to work in a startup-like environment backed by the strength of Airbus, this is your opportunity to help us decarbonize the aerospace industry .

The Test Engineer position consists of a limited contact linked to the deliverable of the demonstrator (estimated completion date April - 2028), starting ASAP.

Mission:

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, you will play a hands-on pivotal role in executing the Verification & Validation strategy during the demonstration phase. You will master and drive the full testing lifecycle - from receiving Laboratory Test Requests and drafting Laboratory Test Instructions to real-time test execution, deferred-time data exploitation, analysis, documentation and problem report management.
Your role requires high rigor and immediate real-time decision making to maintain systems and facility integrity during high risk electrical test runs.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Test Lifecycle Management: Drive the complete test campaign lifecycle from transforming Laboratory Test Requests to detailed Laboratory Test Instructions to executing real-time tests, conducting deferred time data analysis, writing formal test reports and managing Problem Reports through their full resolution lifecycle.

  • Test Campaign Execution & Real-Time Integrity: Be a key contributor to the demonstration phase managing the execution of complex tests, including functional tests, electrical failure mode tests - short circuits, arc-flashes - and altitude environmental emulation up to 55.000 feet. Maintain maximum technical rigor and make critical real-time decisions during live test runs to protect and preserve facility and specimen integrity. Mastery handling Test Support Control systems (NI Veristand, etc.)

  • Test Setup & Instrument Calibration: Configure sensor acquisition chains (current/voltage transformers, Rogowski coils, oscilloscopes, high-speed cameras, temperature sensors) and verify signal integrity prior to test execution.

  • Deferred-Time Data Analysis & Exploitation: Drive post-test data export and deep data exploitation using specialized software toolsets (NI DIAdem, MATLAB, etc). Execute fast analysis and parameter processing for rapid problem-solving iterations and engineering hypothesis validation.

  • Documentation & Anomaly Resolution: Maintain accurate laboratory logbooks, author comprehensive Test Result Analysis reports and drive Problem Report Lifecycle Management to systematically log, diagnose and resolve testing anomalies or hardware / software issues.

  • Test Bench Configuration Control: Assure, track and manage an agile test bench configuration state - hardware setups, sensor chains, bench software configurations to support repeatable test campaigns and rigorous data analysis.

The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.
