What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced Air Quality Consultant with 3 to 5 years strong expertise in atmospheric dispersion modelling using ADMS / AERMOD software. The successful candidate will deliver high quality air quality assessments for a range of infrastructure, industrial, energy, transport, and development projects while working closely with multidisciplinary environmental teams.
What you will do
  • Deliver air quality impact assessments to support a range of planning and environmental permitting projects.
  • Develop and run atmospheric dispersion models using ADMS 6, ADMS-Roads and/or ADMS-Urban.
  • Analyse meteorological, emissions and monitoring data to produce robust and accurate modelling studies.
  • Interpret modelling results and turn technical findings into clear, practical recommendations and mitigation measures.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports in line with relevant UK guidance, including IAQM, DEFRA and Environment Agency requirements.
  • Support Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), planning applications and environmental permitting submissions.
  • Work closely with clients, regulators, local authorities and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, project delivery and wider business development activities.
  • Share your knowledge and provide guidance and mentoring to junior consultants where appropriate.
Who you are
  • Degree-qualified in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, Geography or another relevant discipline.
  • Experienced within an air quality consultancy environment.
  • Confident using ADMS dispersion modelling software in a practical consultancy setting.
  • Strong understanding of UK air quality legislation, planning policy and relevant guidance, including IAQM, DEFRA and Environment Agency requirements.
  • Comfortable preparing technical reports and communicating complex information in a clear and accessible way.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail.
  • An effective communicator who is confident working with clients, regulators and wider project teams.Well organised and able to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.

It would be great if you also have
  • Experience using AERMOD or other atmospheric dispersion modelling software.
  • Knowledge of emissions inventories and GIS software, including ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Experience contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
  • Previous project management experience.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM), Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) or CIWEM.
  • Chartered status, or be working towards Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or Chartered Scientist (CSci).

Skills Required

  • 3-5 years experience in atmospheric dispersion modelling (practical consultancy setting)
