The Role
Assists teachers in supporting preschool children, particularly those with special needs, by implementing individualized goals, recording behavioral data, adapting activities, providing caregiving, promoting socialization, supervising classrooms and playgrounds, and communicating with staff and families. The Aide floats between classrooms and may travel occasionally within the service area.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Teacher, the Aide assists the classroom staff in the implementation of individualized goals and objectives set forth in the partnership with the Parent/Guardian and the Teaching staff for children identified in need of additional guidance within the classroom environment. The Aide will participate in regular communication with staff concerning children and on going communication with parents/guardians. The Aide will support classroom and playground supervision to ensure the safety of every child.  The Aide will be a floater between the classrooms as assigned or needed.

 

Essential Functions
  1. Observes and records specific behavioral data as well as targeted goals and objectives as directed by the Teacher.
  2. Routinely communicates observations and progress with program staff.
  3. Adapts planned activities, materials, and equipment to facilitate participation by special needs children.   
  4. Helps promote communication, play, and socialization with classmates.
  5. Performs required care-giving activities for children as necessary (i.e. feeding, toileting, dressing, etc.) 
  6. Implements behavior management techniques and monitors progress and effectiveness as directed by the teacher.
  7. Assists staff in implementing curriculum and individualized goals for the special needs children to promote growth and learning in all developmental areas. 
  8. Encourage parental involvement into the program and maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians in a professional and respectful manner, with confidentiality.
  9. Additional classroom duties as assigned by Teacher in conducting day-to-day site activities.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance.
  2. Position requires occasional over night travel within CRIHB’s service area. 
  3. Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.
QualificationsQualifications
  1. One (1) year experience working with children ages 3-5.
  2. Six (6) units in early childhood Education or Child Development preferred.
  3. Desire to increase knowledge of normal child growth/development, parent-child relationships, and children with special needs.
  4. Able to demonstrate sound and mature judgment.
  5. Ability and knowledge to work with 3-5 year old children and meet Head Start Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality.
  6. Write logically, clearly, concisely, and effectively with good grammar.
  7. Skills in working with a diverse group of parents/guardians.
  8. Self-motivated, ability to work independently and with a team.
  9. Current physical exam, negative tuberculosis test, Hep B series I, II, and III as required, CPR, First Aid certification, and criminal background fingerprint clearance, Megan’s Law and Trust line.

It also requires the ability to work effectively with Tribal organizations, demonstrating tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.

Indian Preference

Preference in hiring is extended to qualified American Indians or Alaska Native applicants in accordance with CRIHB’s Indian Preference policy, as provided under Title 25 U.S.C. § 5307(b). This policy ensures that qualified Native applicants receive priority consideration in the hiring process. However, the final selection is based on a comprehensive evaluation of all candidates’ qualifications, experience, and alignment with the specific needs of the position. Skills Required

  • One year of experience working with children ages 3–5
  • Six units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
  • Knowledge or willingness to increase knowledge of child development, parent-child relationships, and children with special needs
  • Sound and mature judgment
  • Ability to work with children ages 3–5 and meet Head Start standards of conduct and confidentiality
  • Ability to write logically, clearly, concisely, and effectively with good grammar
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of parents and guardians
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Current physical examination
  • Negative tuberculosis test
