About the Role

Join the University of Wollongong's AI Program as the AI Tech Lead, where you will drive the technical strategy, architecture and solution design for a portfolio of transformative AI and automation initiatives. Reporting to the AI Program Director, you'll provide deep technical leadership across generative AI, intelligent automation and emerging AI technologies, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and aligned with University standards. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of AI at UOW while working with senior leaders, technology specialists and business stakeholders across the institution.

About the Team

The role sits within the Financial Services & Enterprise Data Division, a collaborative and data-driven team that enables the University's academic, research and community objectives. The AI Program is leading the adoption of innovative technologies across teaching, research and corporate services, partnering closely with ICT, Enterprise Architecture, Data & Analytics, Information Security and key business stakeholders to deliver impactful outcomes.

What You’ll Bring

We're looking for an experienced technology leader with a passion for AI innovation and enterprise-scale solution delivery.

  • Extensive experience in technology delivery, including the design and implementation of AI and Generative AI solutions.
  • Strong solution architecture expertise across modern AI, cloud and data platforms.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI tools, models, agents and automation technologies.
  • Deep understanding of AI governance, security, privacy and responsible AI principles.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical business solutions.
  • Experience working with architecture, data and information security teams in large or complex organisations.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including coaching, mentoring and influencing technical teams and stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Experience in higher education, research-intensive organisations or the public sector will be highly regarded.
