Job Description

AI Software Engineering Director 1 - IDP Lead will lead the strategy, design, delivery, and modernization of enterprise document processing solutions. This role requires a strong technical leader with deep expertise in document automation, workflow orchestration, AI/ML technologies, systems integration, software delivery combined with people leadership.

Candidate will have technology experience, including extensive experience delivering large-scale IDP solutions that have generated measurable business outcomes such as cost savings, capacity creation, efficiency gains, risk reduction, and improved customer experience. Must possess strong hands-on technical expertise while also providing strategic leadership across architecture, engineering, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the enterprise Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) strategy and roadmap, driving modernization initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes through automation and AI.

  • Lead and develop high-performing, cross-functional teams of architects, engineers, AI specialists, and delivery partners, fostering innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.

  • Drive the adoption of AI-enabled document processing solutions across multiple business domains, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance customer experiences.

  • Design and architect scalable, secure, and resilient Intelligent Document Processing platforms capable of processing structured, semi-structured, and unstructured documents at enterprise scale.

  • Develop end-to-end solutions encompassing document ingestion, OCR, data extraction, document classification, workflow orchestration, validation processes, human-in-the-loop review, analytics, and reporting.

  • Lead the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and production support while ensuring adherence to security, compliance, and architecture standards.

  • Implement and advance AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, and Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities to improve document understanding, classification, extraction, and automated decision-making.

  • Design and oversee integrations with enterprise platforms, including workflow/BPM systems, CRM platforms, content management solutions, and document repositories, enabling straight-through processing while effectively managing exception and review workflows.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Eight or more years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Five or more years of experience leading a software engineering team
     
Skills & Qualifications
  • Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) expertise with experience delivering enterprise-scale document automation, OCR, workflow automation, or document management solutions.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Tungsten TotalAgility (Kofax), Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence, OpenAI, and AI-powered document processing platforms.

  • Deep knowledge of OCR technologies, document classification, data extraction, machine learning models, and document understanding frameworks.

  • Expertise designing workflow orchestration, straight-through processing, exception handling, and human review workflows.

  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architectures, microservices, enterprise integration patterns, and cloud-native application development.

  • Proficiency with modern software engineering practices, including Agile delivery, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, application monitoring, and production support.

  • Experience integrating document processing solutions with BPM/workflow platforms, CRM systems, content management platforms, and enterprise repositories.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with proven success influencing enterprise architecture decisions, mentoring engineering talent, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

  • Experience implementing Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI workflows, and intelligent automation solutions.

  • Experience within financial services, banking, insurance, healthcare, or other regulated industries.

  • Knowledge of enterprise content management, records management, and governance platforms.

  • Microsoft Azure, cloud architecture, or related industry certifications.

Location expectations 
This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00
