The Role

AI Researchers at Thoughtworks are responsible for leading and conducting innovative AI research projects. They apply their deep expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and computational methods to advance the state of the art in AI. Combining this expertise with a broad understanding of related domains, they generate new knowledge, develop novel methodologies, and publish research findings that contribute to the global AI research community. Their responsibilities include defining research agendas, executing experiments, developing research code, and clearly communicating their findings through academic papers and technical reports. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential, as they effectively disseminate their discoveries to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. AI Researchers stay current with industry advancements, ensureethical standards, and mentor junior team members. As an AI Researcher at Thoughtworks,you will engage in cutting-edge projects, leveraging your skills to solve complex AI challenges and contribute to scientific knowledge.

Must Have:

  • Recent publications from 2023/2024 on Google Scholar profile.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead and manage AI research projects from inception to completion, including setting research objectives, designing experiments, and ensuring rigorous methodology.
  •  Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and define research problems that align withstrategic objectives and advance the field of AI.
  •  Conduct original research to develop new models, algorithms, and methodologies,focusing on publishing results in top-tier academic conferences and journal.
  • Develop high-quality research code and contribute to open-source projects, ensuringreproducibility and accessibility of research findings.
  • Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses, validate models, and explore newAI techniques. Communicate research findings and insights through academic papers, technicalreports, presentations, and other dissemination methods.
  •  Mentor junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative researchenvironment that encourages learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and best practices in AI research.
  •  Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI research and contribute toThoughtworks’ thought leadership in the AI community.

Job qualifications

Technical Skills
  • Experience leading AI research projects, from problem definition through topublishing and presenting results.
  •  Proficient in machine learning, deep learning, statistical modeling, hypothesis testing,optimization, and other AI techniques to conduct novel research.
  •  Expertise in at least one specialized area of AI (e.g., natural language processing,computer vision, generative models, etc.).
  • Skilled in using Python, along with modern deep learning tooling (e.g. PyTorch, theHuggingFace library stack, etc.).
  • Familiarity with research tools, version control, and open-source practices to maintainhigh standards of code quality and reproducibility.
  • Develop and implement novel machine learning models and algorithms, focusing onadvancing the field and publishing research results.
  • Interpret and effectively communicate complex research findings to both technicaland non-technical stakeholders through various formats.

Professional Skills

  •  Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, or arelated field, with a focus on AI or mathematical modeling.
  • 2+ years of experience in AI, machine learning, or a related discipline.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics and an openness to exploring multiple researchmethodologies.
  • Experience with LLMs and natural language processing in a research setting.
  • Familiarity with research in AI alignment, interpretability, or evaluation.
  • Experience contributing to publications in reputable AI/ML conferences and journals.
