We're looking for a Principal Data Scientist to join our team.

This role will be working within our AI group and focus on the research, development and delivery of generative AI solutions within our products. You'll be leading advanced analytics projects, developing predictive models and generating actionable insights to optimize our operations and drive business growth. You'll provide strategic leadership and mentorship within a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, data engineers and product managers that deliver our product roadmap.  Your role will involve ensuring high standards of data quality and integrity, while effectively integrating AI solutions into our products.

The successful candidate for this role must have a strong Data Science background and understand the challenges of delivering data products with a commitment to incremental delivery. Proven experience in leading data science projects, and the ability to articulate AI / ML / DS concepts effectively across multiple business areas is essential.

As one of our Principal Data Scientists you will:

  • Lead usage and implementation of AI solutions, including generative AI, to drive innovation and solve complex business problems
  • Work with our product team to understand the problems our customers face, design solutions to solve them and ensure alignment with our strategic objectives.
  • Use ML / AI and modelling techniques and apply appropriate data engineering, data mining and statistical concepts
  • Write maintainable, testable, and optimised code – and help junior team members do the same
  • Collaborate with teams deploying data science solutions within their product area and identify feedback that will improve the platform
  • Ensure the high-quality implementation and delivery of our roadmap
  • Devise effective experiments and analysis or results to achieve our business goals
  • Be supported to grow and develop your skills whilst introducing new skills or technologies to the team and wider business

You're a great fit for this role if:

  • You've got in-depth data science experience, including productionising complex models and delivering business value with data pipelines; experience using generative models to deliver innovative products is a bonus
  • You have proven leadership abilities and want to be part of a high performing team
  • You can effectively communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You have a strong focus on data quality, integrity, and ensuring reliable and accurate AI outcomes
  • You have some experience with people management and supporting the personal development of more junior data scientists
  • You understand that people build software and know the importance of communication and collaboration within an innovative culture

Our tech stack

We use a wide variety of tools and technologies across our products, for this role we're looking for:

  • Strong skills in Python and AI / ML frameworks like Tensorflow, PyTorch and Langchain
  • Deep understanding of big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Hadoop)
  • Familiarity with ML-adjacent technologies like AWS Sagemaker and Apache Airflow
  • Experience with data preprocessing, data wrangling, and data augmentation techniques
  • Proficiency in using cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure for deploying scalable AI solutions
  • Understanding of MLOps practices, model deployment, and monitoring in production environments. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, data modelling, and database querying.

Here’s an idea of other technologies you might encounter:

  • Our services are deployed to AWS, typically using Lambda, ECS and Kubernetes with CloudFormation and CDK for infrastructure configuration
  • Our web products are developed using TypeScript, React, and Redux
  • We have a shared component library implementing our design system
  • We implement GraphQL and RESTful APIs using NodeJS and Python
  • Our backend services are implemented in C# / .NET or Typescript / NodeJS
  • DynamoDB, Redshift, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and S3 are our go to data stores
  • We run our ETL data pipelines using Python
