WORK LOCATION
This is a remote position with eligibility in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, LA, MD, MA, MI, MO, MN, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI, WV, VT, D.C., Candidates must reside in one of the following locations for consideration.

PAY TRANSPARANCY
This role will offer $105,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and location. 
 
Employees may also be eligible for performance-based incentives and additional benefits as part of our total rewards package. 
 
POSITION SUMMARY 
The AI/ML Engineer will be responsible for building and scaling Duncan’s analytics, machine learning, and AI capabilities to deliver actionable insights and measurable impact for clients, operations, and financial performance. This hands-on leader will harness Duncan’s growing data assets to drive client outcomes (e.g., compliance, revenue optimization, customer experience) as well as internal efficiencies (e.g., collections effectiveness, workforce productivity, margin expansion). 
 
The ideal candidate combines technical expertise in AWS-native AI/ML environments with strong business acumen, translating models and insights into operational and financial results. This role is both strategic and executional, building the foundation of Duncan’s data science capability while also delivering high-impact projects. 
 
What You'll Do 
•    Design, build, and scale platforms and pipelines to ensure the efficient flow of data to allow the business to analyze and report the data accurately and quickly. 
•    Deliver insights that directly improve client outcomes (e.g., revenue recovery rates, compliance performance) and internal KPIs (e.g., cost-to-collect, workforce allocation, client profitability). 
•    Partner with Finance, Operations, Sales, and Technology teams to translate business challenges into data science initiatives with measurable ROI. 
•    Lead advanced analytics initiatives including churn prediction, collections optimization, fraud detection, and customer segmentation. 
•    Build data pipelines and experimentation frameworks to enable continuous learning and iteration. 
•    Evaluate and implement automation opportunities (e.g., natural language processing for correspondence, anomaly detection for payments, intelligent agent workflows). 
•    Collaborate with FP&A, BI, and ERP teams to ensure alignment of reporting, forecasting, and operational dashboards. 
•    Champion a data-driven culture, helping business leaders understand and adopt AI/ML-driven decision making. 
Establish best practices in model governance, monitoring, and bias mitigation. 
 
What You'll Need to Succeed 
Required 
•    5+ years of progressive experience in data engineering or machine learning roles, ideally within a tech-enabled, services. 
•    Proven ability to translate complex technical work into tangible operational/financial impact. 
•    Strong programming skills (Python, R, SQL) and familiarity with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn). 
•    Collaborative, entrepreneurial, and hands-on leader with the ability to both execute independently and build a scalable team. 
•    Track record of implementing data science solutions that materially improved business performance. 
 
Preferred 
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field. PhD in quantitative field is a plus. 
•    8–12 years of progressive experience in data science, analytics, or machine learning roles, ideally within a tech-enabled, services, or PE-backed company. 
•    Track record of driving digital transformation and building new capabilities from the ground up. 
•    PE-backed company including 3+ years in a leadership role. 
•    Experience with data visualization and dashboarding for executive and client audiences. 
•    Excellent communication and storytelling skills with the ability to influence decision-making at the executive level. 

 
Physical Demands and Working Conditions 
Primarily a sedentary position requiring prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a workstation. Frequent use of a computer and keyboard; repetitive wrist/hand movements and fine motor skills for typing and mouse use. 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Directly manages data science staff and may oversee data analysts and contractors. 
Responsible for recruitment, development, coaching, and performance management of the data science team.
