About Cummins AI Lab
The AI Lab integrates applied AI research, engineering workflows, manufacturing processes, and enterprise platforms to deliver high-value AI solutions across Cummins’ global operations.
We drive both rapid PoCs and full-scale production deployments.
We are seeking an AI Lab Manager to lead a cross-functional AI team and deliver enterprise-grade AI solutions.
Role Overview
This senior leadership role blends technical oversight, people leadership, delivery management, and cross-team coordination.
The AI Lab Manager will lead a hybrid team and work closely with LLM scientists, platform architects, product architects, and global stakeholders to deliver PoCs and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of AI engineers and scientists.
- Establish a high-performance team culture focused on ownership and delivery.
- Drive hiring, capability development, and role definition for team members.
2. Technical Oversight & Solution Leadership
- Review architectures, prototypes, and solution plans.
- Guide teams across research, development, data, modeling, engineering, and deployment.
- Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for performance, security, and reliability.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Solution Architects, Platform Architects, and Domain Experts.
- Work with global engineering, manufacturing, service, and IT teams.
- Define clear scope, priorities, and success metrics.
4. End-to-End Delivery Leadership
- Oversee project lifecycle from ideation → PoC → engineering → deployment → support.
- Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of AI solutions.
- Communicate progress to business and technical leadership.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Master’s degree in AI, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields; OR equivalent industry experience.
- Strong experience delivering production AI/LLM systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams (manager or technical lead).
- Ability to lead across all 7 dimensions of full-function AI teams (requirements → exploration → data → modeling → engineering → infra → delivery).
- Experience working in multi-region, cross-functional enterprise environments.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in cloud platforms, AI Labs, or major technology companies.
- Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial AI applications.
- Experience building and scaling AI teams.
