Please note: This is a 2-year grant-funded position. Continuation of the role beyond this period is contingent upon the availability of future grant and operational funding.
As a key influencer in our academic community, you will have the unique opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice, connecting students with the latest advancements in AI, robotics, and data analysis at the Willow Creek center.
Portland Community College's Willow Creek Opportunity Center is a vibrant hub that drives economic mobility for traditionally marginalized populations through accessible, industry-aligned skill development, individualized support and wrap-around services from key partners. Under the supervision of the Dean and direction of the Center Director, the AI Lab Coordinator oversees the daily operations, strategic visioning, and student engagement activities of the AI Lab. Funded through semiconductor grants, this role is pivotal in establishing the lab as a hub for innovation, ensuring that artificial intelligence is integrated as a necessary skill and learning tool across various disciplines, across the college and community. The Coordinator will bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice, fostering a "Community of Practice" that supports both students, faculty, and community members in navigating the evolving AI landscape.

What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking ForApply by July 31, 2026Responsibilities & Description
  • Operational Leadership: 
    • Coordinate the physical and digital resources of the Willow Creek AI Lab, ensuring a welcoming and functional space for student-facing updates and program exploration.
  • Curriculum & Industry Integration: 
    • Facilitate the rollout of a new AI Micro-credential program consisting of three PCC courses (360 hours total) leading to a PCC badge.
    • Design and facilitate AI Literacy workshops for prospective students and community members.
    • Collaborate with Faculty Department Chairs (FDCs) and others, to identify opportunities where AI usage can be embedded into coursework as a critical tool for student success and career readiness.
  • Partnership & Outreach: 
    • Act as the primary liaison between the lab and industry partners (e.g., NVIDIA, Intel, Core Defender) to organize workshops and hackathons.
    • Collaborate with on-site partners to integrate training opportunities for community members, small business owners, and prospective students.
  • Strategic Visioning: 
    • Participate in STEM pathway "visioning" sessions to align lab activities with college-wide goals, such as FDC partnerships and professional development initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: 
    • Organize and lead events—similar to Maker-Lab or STEAM center sessions—focused on AI applications, industry partner suggestions, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Interdisciplinary Support: 
    • Coordinate with the Opportunity Center, Workforce Development Center, K-12 Educators, and CTLE to embed lab activities into existing K-12 and college-level curricula.
    • Coordinate regularly with the College’s IT department to align system maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and tech initiatives with the program's strategic success.
  • Student Support: 
    • Provide guidance to students on PCC protocols for AI usage and help them understand AI as a professional skill relevant to their future careers.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Education Technology).
    • Four years of experience coordinating educational lab spaces or technology-heavy student success programs.
    Success Criteria:

    These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position. Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

    • Has experience with and a passion for coordinating lab activities, facilitating workshops, and creating schedules that integrate faculty expertise with industry-standard hardware usage.
    • Experience with educational program coordination and micro-credentials, including managing student recruitment and tracking participant progress for program badge completion.
    • Demonstrated ability to build strategic outreach pipelines that connect K-12 educators, high school students, and community members to the center through major recruitment events.
    • Has experience with cross-functional collaboration and establishing active partnerships across multiple departments. This includes integrating lab resources into specific program mappings and proactively collaborating with the IT department to align infrastructure changes and tech initiatives with program goals.
    • Demonstrated the positive impact of student engagement by delivering "Visioning" or "Maker" style events that attracted diverse student cohorts, including exploratory students.
    • Demonstrated ability to respond to changing industry needs by facilitating consultations or "Community of Practice" sessions to ensure lab technologies and skills training remain relevant to the current job market.

    How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

    The first two steps of the range are: $68,1668 to $70,554 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.
