The Role
AI Governance Policy Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and forward‑thinking AI Governance Engineer to help build, scale, and mature our enterprise AI governance program. In this role, you will work under the direction of the AI Governance Lead to ensure that AI across the ACE organization is developed, deployed, and monitored responsibly. You will help translate evolving regulatory expectations, internal risk standards, and industry best practices into actionable governance processes that enable innovation while maintaining ethical, compliant, and risk‑aware operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the development and operationalization of the enterprise AI governance function for the ACE organization, ensuring processes and controls align with organizational and regulatory expectations.

  • Assist in the development, rollout, and continuous improvement of the Responsible AI Governance Framework, ensuring it reflects emerging regulations and internal risk practices.

  • Implement and maintain governance processes across the full AI lifecycle, including intake, validation, approval, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.

  • Create and document governance paths for different AI use-case scenarios—including internally built models, third‑party AI solutions, GenAI tools, and customer‑facing AI—following direction from the AI Governance Lead.

  • Translate regulatory and industry requirements into actionable controls, standards, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliant AI operations.

  • Perform and support risk assessments for new and enhanced AI use cases across the enterprise.

  • Conduct and support key governance activities, including AI testing, validation, explainability reviews, fairness and bias assessments, model documentation, and ongoing model monitoring.

  • Prepare materials and support facilitation of AI Review Board governance meetings, ensuring documentation and decisions are recorded accurately.

  • Maintain accurate inventories and documentation of AI models, controls, risk logs, and identified exceptions.

  • Partner with Legal, Privacy & Compliance, Information Security, IT, Data & Analytics, and Enterprise Risk teams to ensure alignment and support responsible innovation.

  • Respond to AI governance inquiries, escalations, and policy interpretation requests, escalating to the AI Governance Lead as appropriate.

  • Contribute to the creation and enhancement of governance policies, standards, templates, playbooks, and guidance materials that strengthen the organization’s approach to AI governance.

  • Evaluate AI governance and lifecycle management tools and assist in implementing solutions supporting model inventory, bias detection, workflow management, and compliance automation.

  • Help build and maintain a centralized knowledge base of AI governance resources, best practices, and training materials.

  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to monitor program adoption, governance maturity, risk posture, and overall control effectiveness.

  • Assist in producing recurring reports on AI compliance trends, risk issues, and emerging concerns for leadership and oversight bodies.

  • Track evolving regulations and industry trends and provide actionable insights to inform governance enhancements.

What You’ll Need

  • 3+ years of experience in AI governance, data governance, technology risk, compliance, or model risk management.

  • Solid understanding of AI/ML concepts such as model types, evaluation metrics, explainability, fairness/bias detection, drift management, and model documentation practices.

  • Experience working with regulatory or industry frameworks relevant to AI or model risk management.

  • Proven ability to collaborate across Legal, Compliance, InfoSec, Risk, and Technology teams, ideally within regulated environments.

  • Exceptional communication skills, able to translate complex technical and regulatory topics into clear, business‑friendly language.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 5-7++ years of experience in governance, risk, AI/ML operations, compliance, or technology program management.

  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries is preferred.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML tooling, such as SHAP, LIME, model monitoring platforms, or governance automation technologies.

  • Relevant certifications in AI governance, risk management, compliance, or related disciplines.

  • Experience presenting to senior leaders, risk committees, or regulatory bodies is a plus.
