Role Summary

We are seeking an AI engineer to join a team transforming healthcare and improving the lives and vitality of the millions of members we serve. The role will be a key member of a team working to develop scalable, resilient, and ethical AI solutions for the Cigna IH organization. Working closely with architects, product teams, and platform partners, this role will help establish connectivity to Large Language Models (LLMs), implement layered guardrails, leverage LLMs and open‑source libraries, and contribute to building and maintaining end‑to‑end AI pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the architecture and development of scalable, resilient, and ethical AI solutions in collaboration with Product and platform architects, acting as a Generative AI practitioner.
  • Support the establishment of connectivity to LLM endpoints in the enterprise cloud (AWS), including documenting DNS, routing, IAM policies, and firewall rules.
  • Implement enterprise‑standard layered guardrails, including input validation, prompt‑injection mitigation, runtime constraints, and content safety controls.
  • Apply Responsible AI principles in solution design and implementation, supporting fairness, transparency, and compliance with enterprise governance requirements and emerging regulations.
  • Utilize LLMs, open‑source frameworks, machine learning techniques, and numerical programming tools to help deliver AI‑enabled business solutions.
  • Work with open‑source libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain), cloud platforms, and internal systems as part of cross‑functional delivery teams.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of end‑to‑end AI pipelines, including data preprocessing, feature extraction, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Advance AI adoption by facilitating awareness of AI trends, infrastructure, and emerging issues, with a particular focus on LLMs and enterprise AI adoption, and disseminating insights across the team

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a technical role developing and deploying AI solutions preferably in healthcare or highly regulated industries for various countries in a medium-to-large enterprise.
  • Experience in implementing sequential modelling or generative AI, deep learning architectures, and Transformers, with a strong understanding of deep learning techniques such as GPT, VAE, and GANs.
  • Programming experience in one of C/C++, Java, Python and for self-supervised learning, transfer learning, and reinforcement learning.
  • Proficiency in machine learning libraries and frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, LangFlow, and Keras.
  • Background in natural language processing (NLP), with experience utilizing tools like SpaCy, NLTK, and Hugging Face.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based platforms and services, such as AWS in particular or GCP and Azure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative AI solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Possess a proactive mindset, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Understand responsible AI frameworks and adhere to established ethical AI principles.
