As our next AI Engineer, you’ll play a key role in helping us build the UK’s go-to home improvement marketplace. From bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and real-world application, your work will help us move forward by building the intelligent systems that simplify home improvements for millions - fast, fair, and without the faff.
Forget long lists, here’s what you’ll actually spend your time on:
Delivering production-ready AI solutions that drive results for our customers and trades.
Spotting ways to improve how we work by identifying where AI (and where not AI) can solve complex business problems.
Collaborating with cross-functional product teams to integrate intelligent workflows into our wider ecosystem.
Making sure every interaction with our platform is smarter, faster, and leaves people feeling confident in Checkatrade.
It’s not about ticking every box. It’s about turning up curious, ready to crack on. You’ll do well here if you bring:
Production AI Experience: A proven track record of designing, building, and deploying AI-powered solutions (not just training models, but making them work at scale).
Programming Proficiency: You’re a pro with JavaScript or TypeScript and comfortable with modern software development frameworks.
AI Fundamentals: A strong grip on algorithms, evals, agentic workflows, and MCP. You understand the trade-offs of different model types and know when a simpler solution is better.
Solid Engineering Roots: Deep knowledge of design patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and version control.
Communication Skills: The ability to translate complex technical concepts—like model performance or system trade-offs—to anyone from a fellow dev to a non-technical stakeholder.
We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s just a taste:
