Who is your future team?
We are seeking a skilled AI Engineer to join our dynamic team, responsible for supporting Axis' Generative AI Team through advanced search solutions and data processing. Our team consists of experienced software engineers, and this area is strategically important for Axis, offering significant development potential moving forward. Our company operates in an expansive market where innovation and strategic decision-making are key. Our team is dedicated to creating optimal solutions for information retrieval and data consumption. This data is primarily used to enhance our generative AI models and services.

What will you do here as an AI Engineer?
As an AI Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and deploying advanced retrieval systems that leverage retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques and agentic orchestration frameworks. You will work on integrating autonomous AI agents capable of executing multi-step reasoning and retrieval tasks to solve complex information access challenges across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

• RAG System Research and Implementation:
  Lead the design and implementation of retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, optimizing vector-based search and hybrid retrieval methods. Integrate agentic reasoning capabilities to enable dynamic tool usage and document chaining.
   
• Agentic Search Orchestration:
  Develop AI systems that utilize agent-based frameworks (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen) to autonomously plan and execute information retrieval workflows across multiple data sources and formats.
   
• Search Algorithm Optimization:
  Enhance semantic and hybrid search algorithms, embedding-based ranking, and context-aware retrieval, ensuring scalable and relevant access to both structured and unstructured data.
   
• Query Understanding and Interpretation:
  Build intelligent query understanding components that support agent planning, tool selection, and intent recognition, adapting to user needs and task objectives.
   
• Data Processing and Integration:
  Collaborate with data engineers to extract, transform, and load content from various internal and external sources, optimizing it for real-time agent access and retrieval.
   
• Information Retrieval Model Development:
  Train and fine-tune models for document classification, ranking, and chaining, enabling agents to navigate large corpora with contextual awareness and minimal human intervention.
   
• Evaluation Frameworks:
  Define and maintain evaluation pipelines for both retrieval and agentic performance, including retrieval accuracy, task completion rates, and agent autonomy metrics.

Who are we looking for?
You are an AI enthusiast who takes responsibility for your own tasks while maintaining a big-picture perspective. You are curious, eager to learn, and appreciate the importance of networking with others inside and outside your team to achieve efficient working methods. You are open to learning new things and enjoy sharing knowledge with others.
We love for you to have:

• A relevant education such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar.
• Proven experience with Python and working in a Linux development environment.
• Strong understanding of large-scale information retrieval systems.
• Experience with data processing and storage technologies.
• Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools.
• Knowledge of data architecture and data collection strategies.

Additional skills that are valuable:

• Understanding of AI/ML concepts and data requirements for generative AI models.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
• Knowledge of data security and privacy principles.
